Default b16 All motor

Hello my friend has a ef hatch with a b16 all motor setup with many crower internals. The car runs, but it sounds bad around the time vtec should kick in. supposedly he has work on the car many times and can not figure it out. He is running real high compression like 12 to 1 or 11.5 to 1...not sure. I thin he had it dyno tuned, anyways he is trying to sale me the car for 2k. Do you think its worth it? Whats the most do you think I'll have to put into a car like this to get it up and running? Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? I hope its something simple...

Im guessing thats what happens...around that rpm it gets a powerloss and it bogs heavy...Someone suggested the dizzy, I thought that was replaced and is brand new. I'll try again...anymore thoughts?

So whats bad about a all motor b16....I think I eventually want to sell the high compression parts and make it a b16 turbo???? but if I buy it now. do you think its going to be that difficult to maintain if its not a daily driver? Yeah there is some error code, supposedly he looked it up and it had something to do with the vtec?

Maybe the vtec was rewired and got hooked up wrong?

hey...update on exactly whats crackin. the b16 all motor is misfiring at 2500-3000 rpm....it bogs heavy after that... and also the vtec is not popping on. There is a error code.... does this sound like two different problems? the dizzy ?

check the plugs wires and distributor thats probably whats causing the missing after 2500 because my ls did that before and it was a bad wire. as for the vtec problem check the oil line that pressurizes the selinoid, low oil can also prevent vtec from engaging. it could also be a problem with the rocker assembly or the selinoid itself

its the code #22 the vtec selenoid oil pressure switch? He told me he as put a sensor from a 99 civic si with vtec, It should be working and brand new. I will test out these ideas over the weekend. Let me know if you got more

you could swap the old switch if it worked.

okay, first- take apart the switch and check the screens for blockage. then
disconnect battery, disconnect ecu and measure resistance from the connector at
the switch to the ecu connector, should be less than an ohm.
make sure your ecu is either chipped or the correct ecu for the engine do
this and get back.

Realistically, your best bet is to bite the bullet and take it to a reputable shop and have them give you an opinion as to what exactly is going on. It may be component related and an easy fix, or it may be internal and require either a rebuild or a different motor. Fortunately B16 longblocks are cheap, and most component failures are easy to discover. Good luck.

I just got back from towing the car to my place. Some ****...took me all day to get it sold. Well plans happened like they were suppose to. I'm going to start my mission with working on this car. I have a update for you guys to know about the dizzy... Its a weird ignition setup...so its a MSD 6A that routes to a ignition coil box...???? I guess...and that send like a normal 8.5 mm msd wire to the dizzy. the dizzy is a msd pro charger or something....and then the dizzy has four normal wires under the hood. I personally think MSD aint that good, I should go with NGK....? and maybe that might HELP? I think that will be step number... I still need to figure out if code 22 is related to my overall problem... Maybe I should start with that? how can I fix that????

Crazy **** Yo, it has crazy stuff all over the place right now its running stock injectors but I can put on brand new 320 rc's, What fuel pressure is good. For a full compression 12.1 b16 do you have to run high octane fuel? First Im going to change the fluids, then Im going to check the wiring on the ecu...it has a spoon chip! thats crazy cool. vtec..is 5200 and rev is 9500? this car has tons of good stuff it just need a lil extra helping hand and its going to chirp bizzards....but yeah so this...so he says it has a loud pinging metal sound when it gets going....Let me know if you have anything to say...peace
