Where has anyone found a 5lb extinguisher? When I called RacerWholesale to get mine for the 944, they only had 2.5lbs and the fire systems IIRC.

Why can't you install a system?

To shed some light (Scott/Karl...correct me if I'm wrong...I know you will): Way back when we were talking about safety equipment, and 5 lbs. fire extinguishers were discussed. Granted I will be getting a fire suppression system, but I’m with most of you, my budget won’t allow it right now. I would guess 5 lb bottles were common (that is suppression systems), and assumed they would make 5 lb hand held bottles as well. But it is in my 2002 plan. Good thing is that I haven’t heard of many “Showroom Stock” (T1, T2, SSB, SSC) fires, most of them are highly modified cars unlike ours.

The new CCR says 2.5 (I think... I'll double check).
Without the CCR, we just said 5lbs to make sure it was covered.

By the way, the R. Wholesale bottle is 4.6 lbs. $29.99 with metal bracket. It will be just fine.

Why would ECHC require any more than SCCA IT ??? 2.5 should be fine IMO.

Yack & anybody else: if you don't want to spend $30+ while you are saving up for a full firesystem, I have an unused/nearly new 2.5# Amerex sodium-bicarb handheld with double-strap bracket that you can borrow for the NASA/Feb event (or any other one). Every penny counts...

HTH,

Jon

Fire extinguishers MUST have metal ONLY bracket and securing device. Should be located in reach of seated and secured driver, but not where it could be impacted by driver in a mishap.

The is the word of the Grump (also the CCR and common sense)
