would cleaning out my catilic converter, and by cleaning out i mean getting rid of all the charchal and whatever else thats in there thats supose to keep your emmisions good, improve performance in anyway? would this be the cheap way way of avoiding buying a test pipe or highflow cat?

 

i did it to mine, it was clogged pretty bad, noticed an improvement in the way it revved up top

charcol...no..there is no charcol in a cat...theres platimum, palladium, and i believe rodium, cleaning it out would be about the same as getting a test pipe, but i think a high flow cat has some of the **** in it. what ur doing is clearing it out completly, if u do it make sure its completly out, that **** will clog ur exhaust up real good if its not. is this on an obd 1 or 2? (how many 02 sensors do you have.)

if its a 2 ull throw a CEL because the 2nd one looks for a steady signal, and all of the contaminents that the cat was supposed to convert to water and co, will make the voltage signal jump alot. 1st o2 sensor is to make sure engine isnt fuckign up, 2nd one is to make sure cat isnt ******* up. the pcm will not change at all because of a 2nd o2 sensor light, but itll be on.

 

why dont you just buy a high flow and at the same time it will be environmental
friendly

 

if its not clogged and you gut it, you most likely lose hp not gain. just buy a 2$ test pipe, jeez.

well i guess it sounds like a bad idea then. i was just wondering. i am glad i asked before i did it. if you have a test pipe would that throw code as well? whats better, test pipe or high flow cat?

 

i have a high flow cat. i recently installed it, i went from stock to headers, the high flow cat, and exhaust. and there is a pretty big gain, but it does sound kinda bad. very loud too. and yea, it does stink pretty bad. especialy when the goddamn 2nd 02 sensor doesnt reach behind the cat and i have to run without one plugged in.

hell yeah cleaning ur cat will gain some lost performance. free's up the exhaust big time. did you use brake cleaner? because that works really really good.!

Yeah off road use only because it does nothing for your car unless u have turbo or something along those, but it will put more stuff into the air and bring more attention to your car becase it really will sound like a fart can.

lol, nobody has mentioned that without a cat you'll also have to deal with the shitty exhaust fumes being blown back into your car on a windy day and then you get to walk around smelling like unburnt gas....
