Default check out my DIY 98+ tailights

i took my 96 tailights and painted it red so itll look like the 98, check it out and tell me wut u think.


heres how it looks like with just the candy apple red paint before the clearcoat. i gott about 3 layers of the candy apple.


heres after the clear coat. theres about 4 or 5 layers



and now, this is how it looks like on my car, the talights doesnt look so glossy, i think i messed up on the clearcoat

you shouldve painted just the amber.. now the whole tail light is not as glossy

Wetsand them with some 1200 grit...that'll make them shine.

Pretty good idea Wetsand it and get the gloss going Besides them being dull, it would fool me if I saw it driving.

When I first saw the pics I was gonna say, "uh oh, messed up on the clearcoat", but since you said it......

Anyway, when you spray clear it looks the same as when it's being applied. It's not like paint. It looks like you went too light on the coats. I guess you can sand it and respray some cear.

It doesn't look bad, but I agree and say you should of just sprayed the amber.

yup, definitely need to wetsand those . imho pre 98s &gt; post 98s.

yeah, i did the same to my original 94-97 tail lights..... i only masked off the amber part and painted transparent candy apple red! It came out to be a bomb *** job, but then.... it wasnt as bling as the rest of the plastic on the entire tail light, and when it fades, it looks WHAK! Anyways, if your happy with it, then that all that matters

They didn't really turn out the best...but you can always do them again. Use some EASY-OFF oven cleaner or any paint stripper and it will take the paint right off...It wont damage the plastic so don't worry. Better luck next time.
