Default Proven HP gain from Air Intake?

Hey guys,
I did a search for my question but I havent found what Im looking for so I hope you guys can help me. My friend has a 02 Civic and wants to buy a CAI. (He has a catback system right now). I told him to not get it because I think its stupid to spend +- $200 bucks to get 1-3 more hp and take all the risks of having an intake (Hydro Locking/ Making the car burn oil in the long run/ Extra unfilter debris inside the engine/ etc..). I told him he rather spend money to upgrade his headers or at least do some head work. He says that he thinks he can get 5-10 hp from a CAI.

I beg to differ.

Do you guys have ANY dyno numbers that shows putting an CAI can gain 5-10 hp into a Civic? Thanks ahead.

On my B16, going from the stock intake setup to an AEM gave me 1 hp, then I put the stock airbox back on, removed the lower sections and put in a K&N filter and gained 2 hp over the AEM. It is possible to gain 5-10 from an intake, but in order to do so you'll need a bunch of additional supporting mods and tuning.

but a Air Intake alone does not add 5-10hp to ANY honda motor correct? (Especially a 02 Civics)

bolt on mods (intake, header, exhaust) aren't going to give magic numbers but they do help. sorry just wanted to through in my two cents since kendall pretty much answered the question

he read this thread but still doesnt believe me... He thinks "grounding kits" will give him at least 5hp. Do you know of any links, dynos or faqs that would prove my point to him?

And is a do-it-yourself homemade intake outta the question? Because the power source is primarily from the filter...so if you buy a good filter, and throw in a 3" or so home made pipe with it...you'd save a lot more money, money that can be used to mod other things.
