Default Timing Question for b-motor

How do you check your timing with that gsr? I know you need the timing gun but the manual say to remove the check connector for the holder. With the ignition off, connect the two terminals together with a jumper wire. Thats from the haynes manual for honda 96-00,interga 94-00.

Now b/c the motor is in a crx, do i do that terminal thing for the crx or no? B/c my car is running rich and the riding rough. Also the one of my spark plug had a preignition in the first chamber (thats the one next to the timing belt)((right?)) Thanks -Phil-
Also-The motor is a b16a2 with a Gsr head-

yeah your still need to do that. if you have an 88 your connector is in the engine bay behind the drivers headlight. in plain view. 89-91 is is near the ecu. It is behind the vynil kick panel on the side to the left of the ecu.
