But most B series bearings are also interchangable and I believe some are made of better compounds than others.

No you are right and wrong all b series mains are the same yes but each block has it's bearing color code for clearence perposes you can buy just one set and put it in the block but chances are your oil clearence will be off witch in turn will shorten the life of the motor.
