Default installing a 96 vtec Ex engine into a 91 civic dx hatch

I am a new member with a few questions I hope someone can help me with. I am using a 91 civic dx hatchback non vtec, 5 spd. I have installed a 96 vtec ex into it. I have left the body harness intact but have opted to use the engine harness and the ecu from the 96 car. It should be known that I need nothing street legal or emission legal for this vehicle. It is simply used to race on ice and that is all. No street use whatsoever. After the install I have no spark and seem to have everything wired according to the basics. Can anyone tell me if I need to repin or run somehting new for this application. Right now I cannot even get it to start but am not a quitter. I hope someone can give me a direction to explore. Thanks so much. kedo @aol.com

If that's the case it would be much more simple to just reuse the DPFI intake manifold, disitributor, harness and ECU.
