Electric Shock Closing Door
After driving my lude for awhile, and then stepping out of it, as soon as I grab the outside of the door to close it, I get a mild electric shock. I've noticed this happens quite frequently, is there anything I can do to prevent this?
the car builds up a negative charge as you drive from fricton w/ the air, tires, etc. This charge is stronger when the air is cold & dry (less moisture in the air.)
When you get out and touch the car, you provide a way for the static electricity to get from the body of the car to the ground. So touching something metal in the car before you get out won't help... that doesn't ground you... you aren't providing a ground for the static electricty to discharge until you touch the ground
Try closing the door with your forearm or elbow. The reason you can feel it normally is because the static jump is concentrated on your finger tip, which is A) a small area and B) a sensitive area.
If you use a less sensitive, bigger area, you probably won't notice it, or if you do, you'll barely feel it. so when you get out, just give the door a shove with your forearm, ***, etc.
at least thats my theory

or do as I do, and hold your key in your fingers and touch it to the lock cylinder before you grab the door, this way the spark is between the key and the door... you're not involved.
