The snorkel takes in air from directly in front of the transmission, it drops down between the radiator fan and the transmission. The inlet is directly above the splash shield, you have to trim a bit of the splash shield.

I got the comptech... The snorkel sit just about 1 inches above the plash guard. as in the engine bay... it look pretty much like a stock air box. The reason I the air box instead of a CAI is because it is pretty safe to hydro locking. Rain a lot here in Delaware too and I have the intake for more than 1 1/2 and I love it. But that is just my opinion

i've got the icebox too. the snorkel is about an inch over the splash guard like it was mentioned earlier. the box also has one or two very small holes(about 1/2 cm) in the bottom, so that in case you do submerge the snorkel you won't hydro lock. it's the best all around intake for the k-series, imo.

You can see the snorkel in the second picture. It goes straight down between the transmission and the radiator fan

what kind of gains are expected from the icebox compared to a short ram or a cold air

not true. the snorkel can maintain full functionality when keeping the splash guard (its not like the bottom of it suffocates due to a seal forming against the plastic). In my case, i noticed the bottom of the splash guard having almost an inch of room between the opening and the splash guard.

Well you're right, there's some room. I still trimmed it though
