skunk2 stage 2 cams
I want to put in these cams in with a stock bottom and compression rate on a gsr. It's in a fully built head no port and polish but plan to tune with hondata. Am i going to make a good amount of power or i should just hold off and built bottom too?
to run skunk stage 2s efectively you need 12:1+ compression to run those.
You will make power, but not as much as if you increased your CR
Save you money and get ITR pistons

It's actually 11:1+ compression that's recommended for those cams to work best but they will make power in less compression. Your top and bottom end are separate so for now you could install the cams and use a thinner head gasket to help bump the compression a little. Then at a later time when money allows, you can build the bottom end and gain some more compression using JDM ITR pistons or something and extract more power from those cams.
I ran these in a stock compression b16a, ported head, portflow springs and retainers, sk2 intake manifold and 65 mm tb. they pulled hard from 4k-10k. you will be fine with these in your gsr, just be sure to upgrade your head, and raise your vtec xover. It wouldnt hurt to get a set of jdm itr pistons and new rings while you have everything apart. Good luck with your setup
These cams, properly tuned, rips especially at top end. I ran these on my stock GSR motor and got a little bit more power than people that ran Skunk2 Stg. 1 cams on average. If you increase your compression to 11:1 or over then you will truly experience how these cams sing.
kewl..thx for the feed backs....i think imma just going to order some valves and hondata now...any thin gaskets recommecnd to get? for now?

Arite....need some advise again to see if i should order it....Imma go order hondata s100, going to buy a oem head gastet... and put in the valvetrain with the stage 2...do you think i'll be makin some power....or it's not worth the time...and should save up...

yes

If you decided to do the block first I'd go with the JDM type R pistons instead of the CTR's. If you want to increase your compression over the 11:1 you'll have just go with a thinner head gasket, flat faced valves and/or plane a little of the head.
The bottom line is that you can run those cams now on your engine using a few tips listed above, to increase your compression without touching the block and still make good power.

More compression is good but it'll also require a lot more extensive tuning to get it to run properly at about 12.6:1 with CTR pistons in it. The fact is that Skunk says you only need about 11:1 to be in the ideal compression range for the cams to work well. It makes sense to build the engine so it's easily tunable and can be easily run on pump gas without problems.
Arite...I'm havin a bit3 of trouble pickin pistons...should i go for p30 or ctr??..or should i go with some other piston...I'm open to recommendations....remember..it's goin on stage 2 cams....what are most poeple running with these cams..
P30's would be a nice choice and give you about 11.7:1 compression. If not those I'd go with the JDM ITR (p73-00) pistons for about 11.4:1.
ctr's in a gsr motor will yeild 12.45:1....then you can run a thicker headgasket from cometic the .040 will lower it .5 (or the .036 for little more compression) and give you just about 12.0:1 with increased valve clearance....the key here being the increased valve clearance....when i called skunk2 and asked them about running skunk2 stage2's in my poor man r setup they said i was cutting it close on the intake valve with clearance because of the 12.3mm lift....
ctr pistons + thicker headgasket will give you great compression with increased piston to valve clearance....perfect for skunk2 stage2's
