Digital SLR info + pic request.
So I applied to a college 4 hours away, and Im hoping things go good!
One of the requirments for the Photography course is buying a digital SLR.
This is what it says
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">OTHER INFORMATION
-Students are expected to provide their own digital SLR camera (approximately
$1500.00) and a hand-held light metre (approximately $400.00) for Levels 1
and 2. For Levels 3 and 4 students may rent a 4x5 and medium format camera
from the College for $250.00 per term.
-The Photography program is associated with the Professional Photographers of
Ontario (P.P.O.), The Professional Photographers of Canada (P.P.O.C.) and the
Professional Photographers of America (P.P.A.).
-The Photography program has introduced modularized course offerings which
enable students to progress through the program at a rate best suited to
his/her personal needs. These changes primarily affect third and fourth
level course work by offering courses in the May through August time period.
Course work in this period may allow early graduation or a convenient means
of upgrading failed courses from the Fall/Winter Terms. Contact the Program
Co-ordinator for more information.

understandable, but its not the fact of waisting time.. any extra info will help me, not to mention moving out of town and meeting new ppl. Maybe taking pics of Hondas or something for a living
And being able to put it on my resume.

craigslist.org has couple of canon 10d's for sale. their used of course. they go for 700-950+ with some extra stuff.
i would get started on snapping some pics and used that class to correct your misstakes. its always a plus to take classes.
edit: also go to dpreview.com to see some of the newest cameras out.

Well I have some pics form my Mavica (1.2mega) and I know its old and ****, but some poeple say Ive got some skill.. and some friends and family are pressuring me into applying. I was just weary about the whole (is it worth it) facture, but I realised its something I love, even if IM not the h-t photocrew or any easton chang.

not trying to sound like a dick or anything but... don't waste your money on a DSLR thinking you're gonna be some super good photographer right away. i'd take pics first with a simple point-shoot camera before you waste the money and time in class. make sure photography is something you want to do before you jump in over your head. telling yourself you like it and want to do it is one thing, going out and taking nice shots is another. i'm only saying this 'cause you stated you're a "newb". just my .02 on the subject.

it messures this light of the subject that you are shooting and it "trys" to give you the right exposure.
i hope i gave you some light on that subject.

get your self a used d30/d60/10d
pick up a 50mm 1.8 & a 18-55 ef-s (easily modified), or a tamron 28-80.
you can get the body and 2 of those lenses probably for any where from 500-900 total.
all are excellent. if your pics are gonna be on the computer only, go with the d30, if you need prints bigger than 8x12, go with the d60 or 10d.

What im thinking is how you aquired the idea of becoming a 'photographer' and havent even looked up onto it at all.
You signed up for a school 4 hours away, but yet seem to know nothing. Thats like me wanting to become a surgeon and not know anything about the human body
