Black engine bay with different color exterior...whats your thoughts?
O.k. I know the topics been brought up before but Im talking certain colors w/black engine bays.
Heres the story...k-swap in eg should be up and running tomorrow then it goes to the paint shop. In our dealings between these two shops some favors are being paid up and one of them is painting the eg ANY COLOR I want for just the cost of the paint.
The car is black right now and Im thinking either a Corvette black, Harvard blue or ebp.
If I change the color I might just go with a black engine bay, frankly the motor looks really good against the black. My worry is with the engine already installed Im afraid it may be very difficult to properly paint around everything. But overall whats your opinion about black engine bays?
Just for fyi the reason I kinda want to get away from black is, the smallest ding really shows, swirl marks (even though Im meticulous about cleaning), damn dust and water spots.
I will certainly entertain any other color ideas....

Im in the same boat as you are....my car is black and im going to take it to the shop to get it painted but im afraid if I shoot a different color besides black my engine bay wont be clean...so Ive concluded that I will paint my car a gunmetal color of some sort and hopefully my black engine bay will blend in even if the shop doesnt do a good job on it.....
black engine bays with different exterior color is the norm back in the sixties and seventies when muscle cars Reigned. Now a days if you look at the newer cars most of them are covered with black plastic all over the engine bay which gives a somewhat black looking engine bay. So I would say its okay to leave it black if you like. IMO black engine bays are okay rather than having red, blue, green ,white with a different colored exterior.
hope this helps

i had a black engine bay for the longest time...i loved it because that is the only color u can get away with with your car being another color... but then i decided to take it a step further and painted a color matched engine bay... and i loved it more...
I like black bays, helps the engine detail stand out
If you go with a black exterior though, paint the bay the same color. Two different blacks would just look dirty

Well actually thats the silver lining here
...any other color than black in the bay and it would be a complete paint job.

yeah true that.
So should the exterior color be painted to the lip at the end of the fender inside the bay or just to the first angle into the bay.
Did that make any sense lol.

I think it looks sweet. I only do it to make my engine bay look darker at night.
Plus my engine bay comes black stock and my stock exterior color is green. This is normal for zenki 240sx.

Paint the whole fender including the lip that goes inside the bay, it would look weird not painting that.
As for my opinion on black bays, i think they are great. I am particular to white and silver on my Hondas and if I buy a car that is not white or silver, I try to look for black because I know when I go the paint the car, I can keep the bay black and won't have to pull the motor when I spray the car. Full color changes are a bitch with a teal, red, or other colored bays.

Thanks for all the late nighters for their opinions. I think the bay will stay black.
NOW I JUST NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT COLOR TO PAINT THE DAMN CAR LOL.
