Melissa from Phantom racing has been talking to San Jose, and trying to get a track put in. But SJPD Said they didn’t want it for a number of reasons one being the amount of people to come to the already over-populated city. The police department does not want to put out anymore men to the streets as they don't have the money and don't want to put forth the extra time. They haven't got any place for a drag strip, as all the land is bought and has building plans in the making.

She was advised to go to Morgan Hill, as it is still a small city, and the extra flow of people could bring more business. I was also told that there is more than enough land out there to put a track, and that the extra flow could provide more funding for your Police Department. The track alone will bring in at least $17,400 a week. But She Has been told Morgan Hill doesn’t want one either because they say there isn’t enough interest and it would be a waste of money to put a track there and not have any business.

So she set up a petition, and have people sign it to show there interested. But for it to be legal it has to be hand written signatures and not the online/email ones. So this makes it a lot harder because we have to get people to sign the papers in person. So we decided that Next Saturday, we will be at Starbucks from 1-4 with our petitions plus info on the “Drive for the Cause”. Come sign and say hi.

Hopefully you will plan a g2g with your club/forum and come by in the masses to get these papers signed so we can finally get a track close by. Thanks for taking your time reading this, and I hope you come by and help us out. All help is appreciated.

I emailed the city about this about 2 years ago. Basic response: the decrease in street racing fatalities and increased income would not warrant a track within Santa Clara county.

Update:

The news of this petition is spreading fast, and more and more big companies and support from our people keeping coming. I am one helping to Organize all this and make it happen. I would like to inform everyone that we now have the NHRA and Nascar in Support of our drive towards a track, as far as support were talking funding/building. One other is Numi in Fremont, they'll provide the land and build the track, and if anything Sign our petition with up to 6000 signatures, by mid April we will know more on what Numi has in store for us, they already have the land they were gonna use for a gaints studuim but were turned down. There’s also a women in Morgan Hill ready to give up her land for a track only, that we’ll be getting in touch with. We also have support from speedsceneracing.com a broadcast radio show. Some of you probably have heard that Sac Raceway might be closing down as early as 2 yrs from now. The most important thing to get this to pass is not through city approval as much as it is resident approval. The city will not approve anything with out their residence approval. The same with building freeways, airports, constructing businesses, annoying neighbors, etc. all must be petitioned to some degree, if it’s changing land zoning, simple approval for a small business if not in proper zoning or trying to kick your neighbor out.
I’ll keep everyone informed as much as possible making visit to all the forums in support or listing our petition

You know whats funny... I got that loving feeling, OOOOOOOO!

Bud, Im not even going to start with personal stuff/insults

There are two ways of doing this (yes, I've already gone down these two paths)

a) the city opens a funded track within the county, who build, support and run the facilty.

b) a private party organizes into business not only to buy/rent land, but to build, maitain, support, etc. This requires the land owners/operators not only to have the excessive land to do so, but also it must be properly zoned, have the agreement from surrounding business, the county, etc.

Yes, id love to see a track open up somewhere close aswell, but I speak for myself in saying 'lets be realistic'. While keeping that in mind, since Watsonville had a few problems with have the Sprint races out in the middle of knowhere, I think the closet place that would actually have the area for this would be the great Los Banos area... and I mean out there, hmm 2 hour drive... much like Sac's

Does your car really run low 10's? or is your car just another comaro/firebird with way too big of a cam and without the right compression, valvetrain and all that other fun expensive stuff? Do you have flow masters? How much nos and how many motors have you blown with nitrus? three???

I took offence to the "Har-De-Har understatment" reply'd by SJcivic in regards to Missa and her petition, given the "personal derived circumstances", i found the amusement to be disrespectfully profound. As for my car goes, what's it to you? I've been building cars and motors for 11years, and been street racing for 8yrs. I own a business in engine build ups, port and polishing, custom FAB work and Sell wholesale and resale parts, i'm pretty sure i know what i'm doing.

Yeah I remember when that happened, actaully know a few people that were allowed 2 have access to the place, i had an invite for some high dollar racing there, but it got canceled do to a plane crash. the petition would have passed but the GOV put a stop to it, b/c their still involved at the location, even though their not supposed to be, makes you wonder what their actually doing there, and still.

BTW. A few years back pops and I had a meeting with barbra boxer to see about getting a kart track put in. She basically laughed in our face. We should be happy that the champ cars will be racing downtown San Jose this year.
