YOU just stole my car!!!
I honestly believe that for the most part, the people on these boards are good people...well i hope so anyway. Or am i just ignorant?
But you've really gotta go farther into this whole idea of stealing cars, specifically our hondas. I've seen a bunch of threads asking how we can protect our cars, and these are my thoughts
1. WHY: are people stealing are cars? Apparently these cars are easy to steal, most parts can be easily swapped into other models/years/totally different cars with readily available mounts/kits and parts that are cheap. We know this.
Theives are getting a lot of money for the parts they steal. <----WHY?
We are willing to pay these prices. That's it. They could never sell these parts without someone willing to pay $xxxx.xx for something. This is perfectly fine if its a legit sale.
2.HOW CAN WE STOP THEM: Yes it is a good idea to protect your teg with cutoff switches and cable relocations. If someone really wants your car, they will take it. I believe the only thing you can really do is have good insurance for its appraised value.
When a valued item is posted in the for sale section how many people actually check out to see who is actually selling this stuff?!? I just see random people asking for shipping prices, and not vouches or proof of purchase from person X who is selling 3 jdm engines, 3 oem optional kits, 3 jdm front ends, and 3 integra shells....get my point?
3. WHO ARE THESE @)#&($^)% STEALING OUR CARS? I really wonder how many people on these message boards have stolen a car. By no means do i want to accuse anyone.
If i were in business i'd want to be directly attached to my buyers and find out what prices i can get.
How are we indirectly stealing our cars?
SUPPLY AND DEMAND. Do we demand performance parts at good prices? OF course!! Where is this supply of parts for our cars? In your driveway...
The next time you are looking to buy something, there is no harm in asking where it came from, proof of purchase etc...if possible.
If i am looking for all red tail lights for example...i post this up in the wanted section. Another person is looking for a carbon fibre hood. Some person sees the demand and goes out...
The next day your best friend with a hot integra calls you and tells you that his 98+ teg with a carbon fibre hood just got ripped off...who has indirectly stolen his car?
Just food for thought...

Interesting way to look at the big picture. I personally feel this thread should not be locked to get other peopls ideas. At least moved to GDD. He is speaking freely which I hope we are allowed to do here to a certain extent.
I hope the K Series never becomes popular among thieves.
Supposedly Honda became aware of the high theft rating and made the RSX's harder to steal...

no, he is thinking like a rational human being.
since when do cars get stolen for thinking "you have a big head and think ur car is faster then theirs." ?????
call me obtuse, but that last sentence is the most assinine thing i have seen in the last hour.

RSXs are harder to steal cuz of a immobolizor...but there are already a few RSXs stolen...most thru tow trucks...but the black market already has aftermarket ecus or something along those lines that will make stealing the car a snap

paranoid people living in a utopia should post their topics in GDD
no, really, cars get stolen cause they're greedy, self-centered people who are willing to steal to get what they can't afford. Car thieves many times don't sell the parts they steal themselves if at all......sometimes they are put to use right in their own cars.
I've been selling/recyling parts off my cars for years, and I've never had a proof of purchase, nor would I ask for one unless it's a high ticket item like a motor or ITR parts. As for buying parts used.......that's part of this hobby, and without it, it would be hard to build up our cars for a reasonable price.
the whole "if someone wants your car, they will take it" is a tired cliche and not at all insightful. If your security is on point, then stealing your car is easier said than done. A thief will look for the easiest targets first, if you have a few layers of theft protection, they will look for the teg that doesn't.
Many of the tegs stolen and posted on here, had very little money or time invested in security....though they had $$$ invested in mods.
As for the insurance, if you live in a high theft area, and own an older teg, if would not make financial sense to pay for full coverage of $6000 a year on a $6000 car....it would be like buying another teg every year......you'd be better off investing some time and money in effective and creative security, and if the worse case scenario does occur, then you can buy another teg.
I'd say it's a very small percentage. Being that this is a message board with membership and history, there is also accountability. It's difficult to be an anonyms used on this forum cause many members look out for each other...
now more thieves sell their goods on internet based sites that are not a community like http://www.thepartstrader.com and http://www.urbanracer.com and http://www.hondaclassifieds.com
there is no familiarity or accountability on those sites the way there is on Honda-Tech........so I think your barking up the wrong tree on this one.
This food you are offering is high in hyperbole and enriched with paranoia.
We are and there is a community of enthusiast out there (and in here) that buy/sell/trade parts and are not the cause of car thefts.
Every element of society has it's fringe groups that don't operate by the rules that the greater whole follow, this doesn't make the greater whole responsible for the illegal acts of the few.
While you are doing all this thinking, (which is a good thing....and I'm not flaming it), do yourself and us a favor, and get some perspective.

I think the idea behind the post is to be aware of what you are buying and don't be short sighted.
I'm sure a good percentage of people, not just on this board but in general, kind of look the other way if they think they may be buying stolen merchandise IF they are getting a good deal. I just think thats how people are in this "me first" society we all live in.

so true..when it's hard to get the funds you need for those brand new parts, why not get used parts? i've gone through numerable sets of rims on my dc2 and on my old accord, not one of them was brand new..all were bought used off of postings online..

paranoia is a good thing. don't let anyone tell you different. its when you stop being paranoid and careless about ur vehicle when u wake up and see that its not there. The point has been made that if ur security is good enough then it is harder for theives to steal it. most theives go for time and if nething goes wrong they bail. they bash the window, disable the security system, and then go for it. nething that delays them such as fuel cut off switch or latch relocation gets them very paranoid and they bail. the bigger and better the security the better ur car is off siting peacefully at night

our cars are stolen because there are a lot civcs ouu there which means there is a lot of demand for higher peformance parts. almost every part on an integra fits on a civic and is an upgrade. so thats why hondas are stolen so much
