Default Wheel Bearing Loose on rear pass.

Hey,

Wondering if anybody can point me in the direction on what part it is I need to replace and if you can give me quick instructions on how to complete (do I need a machine or can I do it by hand).

Mechanic tells me the wheel bearring is loose on my rear pass. tire.

if you want to be sure before you replace it, jack the car up in the back and grab the tire and pull. If it has play or excessive wobble it needs to be replaced.

check out a helms for doing something like this.

It says you are going to need to replace the Hub Bearing Unit. Need to remove the rotor and the spindle nut ( aftering taking the caliper and what not off) then the bearing assembly should come off. probably going to have to replace the whole thing or give it a real good cleaning in some solvent. be careful not to damage the rotor or those two little screws holding it in. I think they should be removed with an impact driver.

My mechanic just replaced the rotor so that should be ok, I'll have to break the 36mm spindle nut before taking off caliper, clean her out throw in a new bearring back and should be good.. is that all I'd need is the bearring pack? I couldnt find it on HAP ..

I had to do it on a 92 si with 200k. I can remember the dust sheild giving me a hard time. also once I had it unbolted the hub came off but the race (I guess). stayed on the spindle. I had to use a mini sledge and a pry bar. I guessed it was heated on I believe after the bearing was making noise it musthave heated up due to friction. I did it in a few hours in the dark with spot lights. the hardest part was the race. going back together it was easy

same thing happened to me. the race was stuck on the spindle. I tried to put the new hub assembly on for 10 mins and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I went to shucks, napa and they told me that it had to be pressed in. according to my helms, I DIDN'T have to be press in the rear hubs, it's the front that needs to be pressed. ANYWAYS, after fiddling around with it for another 20mins, I figured out that the race was still stuck on the spindle. I couldn't get it off so I took it to a machine shop and for $10, they took it off. put everything back on in reverse order and worked out great.

so 92 SI lude has hub assemblies front and back? On my Miata, rear ones had to be pressed in using special tool. Replacing hub assembly was rather easy with impact gun. How much do hub assemblies cost for Lude?

Honda quoted me for the bearring pack $109 CDN (whoesale price since I've been buying much stuff lately) good deal for me!

Thx for the advice, I'll take some pics and do my own mini write-up when I'm done so this thread is worth something when searched from the archives.

I thought there would be a way to replace only the bearring but needed to replace the whole hub ... in an assembly, can't replace just the bearring.

Is this really valid? because thats suckass and expensive

the whole rear assembly should only be about 150 bucks. i provided a part number. Take the number to the dealer and have them pull it up on the screen and make sure thats what you need, or double check on SLhondaparts.
