Default Gude head work?

I've heard of the name alot, but no one I've talked to really ever discusses the quality of the work that they do. They offer a whole head package for the H22 consisting of;

Ported and Polished Cylinder Head
Racing Valve Grind
Ported Intake Manifold
Ported Throttle Body
Cam Shaft(s)

I'm pretty sure that the package also comes with springs and retainers. The whole package only costs $1600 (plus a $500 core charge). I've never looked into this sorta thing before, so I just wanna know if this is a decent price, and if it is, then how is the work that Gude does? Thanks for any replies in advance, and I'm open for any other suggestions on where to bring my head to get this work done, as long as it is in the same price range(I'm willing to spend about $500 more) because im kind of strapped for cash.

Here is a link to the site that sells the package, http://www.mmrusa.com/gudehead.htm

I know of a few members on here that have had Gude cams and ported head and what not. Their customer service has always gotten complaints. Also, im not 100% on how fantastic their stuff is and to what rpm its rated. In my personal opinion i wouldn't deal with a company that has complaints in customer service. To me that is number 1 most important.

Thats true, shitty customer service can be a bitch, but if there isn't another company near that price range I might be willing to deal with it. Oh well, keep the opinions comming...Thanks 98typeSH

What price range are you looking for ? How much power are you looking to make ? Ive heard good stuff about the rocket motorsports valvetrain. Again this is not my personal experience. I do however have experience with the JUN Valvetrain and cam shafts

I knew you had previous experience with JUN, that’s why I was happy you replied. The price range I'm looking at is anywhere from $1500 to about $2500. I've looked at a lot valvetrain setups that I could do on a budget, including the RM setup that you mentioned. The only reason that this option stood out from the rest is due to the fact that I can get everything from one company at one time, which will give me the security of knowing the parts were designed in conjunction and meant to work together. I have two routes I could go (besides this one) and they are, RM springs/retainers with OBX stage two cams, and the full RM setup. Both come out to about $600. Which would leave me with about a grand or so to spend on the rest of the work that comes with the Gude package. And since I've never looked into head work/manifold porting/ throttle bodies/ valve jobs, I didn't know if it would be possible to do all of the aforementioned for just about a grand, give or take a couple hundred. So I guess that should be my next question, how much would all the head work cost minus the valvetrain? Sorry for the long *** reply, I had alot to say, and thanks for taking time to help out.

EDIT: The power I'm looking to make with this setup along with a nice header and a good tune on my vafc (or hondata if i switch) is any where from 210 at the wheels up.

dont bother with them, tehy do substandard work and use substandard parts, we 3rd genners have stuff from them and man, it is not worth it, one guy had his valve seats ground so thin that he couldnt set the correct valve clearences anymore. just a heads up

I've heard some terrible stuff about Gude.

They do not stand behind their work AT ALL. Whatever you get is what you are stuck with. There is even a story about a guy who was shipped back two intake cams, instead of an intake & exhaust, and they wouldn't switch it out.

I don't know if that is true or not, but if 1/5th of the stuff I have heard about them is, I wouldn't trust them with crap.

Alright thanks guys, I guess I'll look else where... Can you recommend any other reputable shops that could perform the work for about the same price? Because all said and done i really don't wanna spend anymore then $2500.

lol yea, i dunno bout that.

To get a real port and polish is going to cost you anywhere from 900-1200 bucks. I know the guys at portflow charge around 900 and do pretty good quality work. May as well send them whatever valvetrain you buy and talk to them about assembling it for you.

I prefer Endyn, Portflow, and RLZ.

Gude is absolute horseshit. Their customer service is 10 tons of horseshit.

Wow, thanks for all the replies, I didn't think this would get much attention. Also, thanks for the recommended companies, I'll look into them. If I get my valve train for $600, then $900 for the port and polish isn't bad at all, then all I have left to do is the throttle body and the manifold, which I'm sure should only come to about $400 ( $100 for the throttle body and $300 for the manifold). Which would bring be to about $2000 or so, which is well in my range . Thanks again guys, you've been a big help.

I'd say Portflow would be one of your best bests if you want head work and all that. Plus they could then install their springs/retainers and valves while their at it.

You can get the RM cams/springs/retainers for around $600 shipped including the core charge from KTeller. As soon as my tax refunds are processed, I am .......

I don't know if you'd need new valves? You can get the basic Portflow package for like $900-ish I believe, and then have them install the RM stuff and be set.

But you will be hard pressed to break 210 without bigger cams and compression.
