Default Clutch Safety Switch Questions

1. First of all, where is it? Is it at the top of the clutch pedal? Or somewhere else?

2. Is there a way to ground it out so I can start the car without the clutch pedal being down? If so, How?

The problem is I can turn the car on with the key, but when I try to start it with the key the car will not turn over. If I jump from Postive terminal on battery to the starter signal terminal, it will turn over. I have already replaced the ignition switch, and am assuming my clutch safety switch has gone south. Let me know what my options are... thanks

on my vehicle it's a black wire/yellow stripe....i have a 91 crx si (stock d16a6). just run 12v to the small connector on your starter.

i would fuse it, but either way i just had to change my tranny. i've only ever taken the whole tranny/motor combo out from above, but i learned pretty quickly how dropping it out the bottom for the first time differs from pulling it out the top with the motor for the 10th time.

but i blew a starter and had an extra one since i have so many parts from a crx ownership of like 4 years.

DO NOT remove all three connectors on your starter, the one that is a 12mm is just a ground to the body of the starter. if you install these backwards you WILL screw up your starter motor.

I was just going to install a starter button and run from positive to the button (in the car), and from the buttpn to the terminal... good idea?

if you're running battery power off the positive terminal you should fuse it. better yet you should attach a relay underhood. running 12v all over isn't good policy. if you aren't familiar with relays i can further explain, but they basically use a low current circuit to move an electromagnet which activates a high current circuit. you want your high current wiring to be as short as possible because if you end up with a short you have less problems.

First off what model crx do you have?? I know exactly what the problem is. I had to do the same thing for like a month i went over everything just like you grounds relays anything you can think of i did it. It is your clutch pedal safety switch. It's located at the top of the clutch pedal. right next to wear the clutch cable connects to the pedal. Your pedal assembly is bent and it's not pushing in the switch when that switch is pushed in it allows the car to send the starter single to the starter and start the car. I have a 90 HF crx. u need to get a new pedal assembly bracket from honda it cost like 116 bucks but it you want faster shipping in 3 days look at 128 bucks like i had to pay. you can reuse your old pedals everything transfers over to the new bracket. Check to see if that bar that goes for the clutch pedal to the brake pedal. IF it broke and came unwelded which will bend the bracket and wont allow the clutch pedal to align up with that switch on top to the clutch pedal. when this happens the clutch pedal gets croocked and it doesn't align up straight with the switch on top. Cause on the hf there is two switchs one is on the bottom of the clutch pedal and the other is on the top of the clutch pedal. when the clutch pedal is not being used the bottom switch is pushed in and the one on top is stuck out.Now when the clutch is pushed in the bottom one switch is stuck out and the top switch is pushed in. this allows the car to start.these two swtichs work together visa vesa. They way i found out what was wrong with my car one day i just looked up their and saw the switch on top i press it in with my hand and had some one crank the car. sure enough that was it.I hope this info helps you out. Im just getting my car back together After putting a new pedal assembly bracket in. ALso when taking out the pedal assembly everything has to come out the dash streeing wheel the streeing coloum. It sucks but it's worth it if you wanna be able to start your car by turning a key instead of having a push botton like i had to do for a while. Get back to me and let me know if this write up helps you out ok peace out peeps!!!!

on my 91 hatch..when the button is NOT pressed (clutch pedal is all the way up, which depresses the button)..is when the car is able to start. using that i hooked upa toggle switch and hid it so that if someone tries to steal my car they wont be able to start it unless they know where the switch is =P. the button is at the top of the pedal..if its just a matter of the switch not being pressed/depressed then just hook a toggle up to it...5 bucks and its an added security measure.
