Some of from honda-tech go karting. Pics inside, mostly of a Neon.
My back hurts. God knows what's gonna hurt tomorrow.
MaddMatt and I went to Charlotte today to show off our MaD SkiLLz in a karting enduro organized by phat-S. Some of the honda-tech regulars were there, in addition to some of "The usual east coast track ***** suspects." I think Adam said we had 24 people for the 2-hour enduro. The scene of the crime was Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte, and our host was the lovely Amy. Mmm, Amy.
It ruled!
During the practice session I started getting worried...man, I must SUCK! I was getting murdered. Fortunately everyone who drove kart 21 got murdered too, so they pulled it out.
For the enduro, I was placed on a team with John Sullivan (Jennifer Catchpole's son, for those of you who know her) and another Adam, nc-rsx-s. Adam lives in Charlotte and takes his lunch breaks at this place...so I knew we had a ringer. I drew the numbers out of a hat for kart number and starting position. I picked the pole position...
and later found that I'd picked a kart that held the track record
They wouldn't give us the superkart though.
Our team ran 1st for a while and then 1stGenCRXer...who weighs like 5 pounds and has done a lot of karting...slaughtered everyone. I weigh a lot more than 5 pounds thanks to plenty of
but still held my own. We would have been 2nd...but the throttle cable broke with like 3 minutes to go! Arrgh. Hope this isn't foreshadowing of what's to come in my first year of wheel to wheel.
Anyway...I took some pictures from the weekend, here they are. Many of them are not of karts since I don't know how to work my digicam very well yet
A driver change. We were required to change drivers, or at least do a stop and go, every 10 minutes.
Shugg (svt_coupe, svt_cobra, something like that
and Adam (phat-S) trying to impress Amy with their mAd skILLz:
So while we were there, four people rolled up in a Neon to play pool. Here's their ride.
One of the cool things about the karting was going side by side. Here's the only action shot I took that came out.
With a ride like this, you want to make sure everyone knows it's a Neon. So let's tell them with some duct tape over the third brake light. Does this make it a Neon Neon?
Hard to see...but worth posting anyway. This Neon Racing Neon Neon had the rarely seen automatic transmission.
Edit: How can I forget! This thing had two-piece wheels. Because...you need that.

Awesome! Those things are so much fun, what kinds of speeds did you get up to? I wish we had done the enduro last Sunday, but it was still awesome doing fast-lap heats, and I doubt I could've taken much more than 10 minutes at a time, my arms were killing me! Those darn CRX guys always have an unfair advantage since they race gokarts every day
Great fun for everyone! Pics didn't turn out as good as I had hoped, due to lighting conditions and my OEM flash, but here's a few.. and the rest are at: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?i...21&mode=invite

For the record... I weigh more than 5 lbs., started LAST on the grid, it just happens that in addition to my CRX that I drive daily, I've been karting competatively since I was 9 and haven't finished lower than second in the past 3 years
Was that mandatory information to disclose ahead of time??
Awesome fun
Damn, that was fun. Damn, am I sore today!
Nice head-condom, Willard - a nice look for you.
YO - all da karting fools in da house showin off dem MaD SKillz - YO
We've got to do this again sometime, sure breaks up the Winter wait for the next track event.
And Speedy - you only weigh 5 pounds and you know it!
Cheers!

Ok ok... I weigh 6 pounds. Don't know what the fuss is all about though, I had to fight for grip the whole time I was going effortlessly faster

Here's my usual speed machine for the interested people. 100cc Yamaha piston port engine ~20 HP, I've hit 85mph and 1.23 cornering G's in it
but the rental karts weren't disappointing
