tires rubbing with only 1.5 drop !!??!!
I put on a tokico illumina kit on my 98 teg (illumina shocks and tokico brand springs set) and I'm riding on stock blades with 195/50/15's. I dunno why but my car rubs like a lil biotchhhhh when i corner hard on rights or if i hit a medium sized bump. Is a 1.5 drop supposed to be this godamn'd full of problems? Is it my car? Should I get stiffer springs? orrrr..........would i have to go back to stock (i dont want to ;o
Anybody else have this problem?
Anybody else have this problem?
A drop like that should not rub, I mean with tires that small you shouldnt rub unless you were maybe slammed as all hell. But did you look at your wheel-well??? Maybe the plastic came loose somewhere in there and is hanging making it rub or something. I would say look it over real good and make sure nothing is loose, because with tires that small and that drop it should not rub. Try and pinpoint the rub spot as good as possible, put some white marking on your tires and go driving and corner real good, then come back and check to see where the white mark rubbed off. There are some pretty good articles on rolling your fenders if that is what is rubbing. Check it out and come back.....
the thing is the tire isn't rubbing up against the fender wheel well, its along the edge where the fender stops and the engine bay begins....kinda hard to explain and it might not even sound practical but it's happening. i cant even tackle corners with my teggy, it makes me depressed
Do any of you think that camber could be the problem? I'm buying some camber kits as soon as i can find good deals but until then, i dont want to change my tires...and they're wearing down kinda thin. And then again i'm not even sure if camber is the problem...the truth is i'm a pretty big guy, would that make any difference that there's a lot of weight on the driver side? *i'm a loser*

HAHA, damn bro, Im sorry but I am having a hard time trying to understand exactly what your saying. But I think its because Im tired as hell. If you can maybe take some pics of the car and where its rubbing. I will try and help more tomm.
Fellow Washingtonian
When you call your car a 'teggy' it makes me think of a knick name you'd give a girlfriend.
The rubbing issue. Hmmmmm. Perhaps your car settled a little bit more than it was supposed to. I would like to see a CLEAR picture of the wheel gap from a couple angles to help you asses the problem.
Another thing is, regardless if you have aftermarket struts on there, these lowering springs that these companies pump out have little to no perfermance value. It is merely a cosmetic upgrade. So when your driving the **** out of your 'teggy' through the twisties your quite possibly putting too much load onto the spring and it cannot hold that weight, the shock piston then gets pushed in and before you know it, your rubbing.
If you want, I'd sell you my factory Type R shocks/struts. This will lower your car slightly and handle much better than your current setup.
Aloha,
Brandon

I had this same problem I was running a P205/35/R18 and it would rub like crazy when i woult turn or hit a bump in the road. You might want to go with a more low profile tire. Say a 45 series or maybe even a 40 series. You could even go with a P185/50/R15. Good luck.
I have a set of front springs from a set of Intrax sports lying around. If you want them, just pay for shipping (~$10 from SoCal) and I will send em out to you. They are supposed to be a 1.5" drop as well, so you can swap them in and see if the problem is the tokico springs or something else.
The other things that come to mind are that you could have a bent control arm or something else that changes the suspension geometry to the point of rubbing. I ran both 195/55 and 205/50/15 with Neuspeed Race (>2 in drop) and stock shocks for about 3 years, and I never had a problem with rubbing.
Don't reduce the size of your tire sidewall, that would just be a bandaid and wouldn't tell you exactly what is wrong.

crapssss....well, if it was a bent control arm, that could be replaced right? I was thinking about getting some skunk 2 camber control arms anyways, and uhhh, yeahs, i'm hopeless
Anyways, thanks for all the help peoplesssss, i lost faith in my integra a few times but i guess i'm just gonna keep on goin with it. Ah and purplegsr, thanks for the offer, hahah, i'll think about it yos, taking apart springs isn't too fun for meh.

What's the springrate on that?
I lowered my ITR just over an inch, and I didn't rub all weekend at a track (cornering on R compound tires, jumping curbs, etc!) 205/50R15.
These are 12K/10K springs though, pretty stiff.
205/45R16 with the offset wrong (+38 instead of +50) rub on my setup though.

Careful, I think the Rear LCA's are different. I'm not sure the stock ITR stuff will fit.

this is correct, if you buy the stock ITR shocks/springs only the fronts will bolt up normally. You will have to swap in some ITR rear LCAs in order to run the rears.

you def. shouldnt rub - i have the same suspension set up as you and im running 215/40/17's
looking for 16" TE37's
and i also have a 22mm itr rear sway which helps some

It could be one of so many problems for my gsr, SHIEETTSSs. Anybody know a good place in the 509 area that could look at my suspension and pinpoint my problem? I dont want to spend hella money and not fix the problem. Thanks for the headsup on the type-r struts, I woulda been screwed
Before you do that....
What are the springrates on your springs, can you find out?
Can you measure the height of the car at the jack points and/or the tub?
Can you confirm, your tires are really 195/50R15 and not 195/55R15 (stock size?) Are these Azenis or ???

Yeah, the driver weight makes a difference. Are you rubbing at the TOP of the fender well on the seam right where the tire goes? Or on the inside edge of the wheel well towards the engine?
Any chance your wheel well plastic is loose, causing the rub? Or are you going right up against the metal (I've been there...)

heh, you caught me, I'm actually running stock 195/55R15's. The wheel is up right against the metal, but only on right turns. I've checked the left side and noticed some rubbing there too, but it's not as severe. It also makes this sound like a metal rubbing against metal sound. I'm also not the smallest guy around (big boned, har har har). The tires are Kuhmo Ecsta Supras(or something like that). And no, the plastic isn't loose, its still stable and connected onto the inside fender. Anddddd....your freakin type -r looks clean as shiet dood. *jealous*

But he's rubbing on top with stock wheels and stock sized tires. If he had a low offset wheel, I'd agree, but he's not rubbing on the outside edge of the fender.
