D15b7 block questions.
First off, I would like to apologize to the website if these questions have been posted before. I did some searching, But was unable to find exactly what I was looking for.
Although this is a very basic setup, I want to do it right.
I started out with a D15B7 engine, it was running, But not very well. So after determining that it needed a rebuild, I pulled it out and started the process. Turns out it was a broken exhaust valve that had caused NO damage and was somehow burned up in the catalytic converter. The cyl walls were also pretty far out of spec. Besides that, everything looked really good.
I have decided to upgrade the head with a D16Z6, Now....this (for me atleast) is not enough horsepower. I was originally going to drop a GSR in the hatch and call it good...But something stuck out to me about a Mini-Me-Turbo...So, thats what I'm doing. Within a couple of years I will probably get tired of this engine and put in something better, But untill then..This should be fun.
I ran into a big question at the machine shop where the block is getting fixed up. Should I balance all moving parts? I figure I would want to if I was going to race all the horses out of the poor little single. But since this is more of a daily driver...
This is where you guys come in.
is it worth dropping the 250 bucks to balance the engine true? this is the real mind tweaker for me, Because I hate doing things half ***. Money is a little tight and that 250 could be happily invested in a very good management system for the turbo. Take note that the entire engine is getting a complete overhaul with all new bearings/seals/sub components (this could possibly mess with the weight in the bottom end?)
The last thing I want is the engine exploding because I didn't do something right. How necessary is this process? I will be leaving all internals OEM while running approx 6-8 pounds of boost on a small turbo (garrett).
Input and advice will be gladly read.
Thanks!!!
