Default over reving crx si

tonight while driving my friend and I went to a deserted parking lot and drag raced each other. During this drag I revved my stock d16a6 motor past redline to about 6700 rpm before i upshifted into the next gear. This happened twice in a row.

how much damaged would I have done to my motor? I know the springs begin to float at that rpm which probably isn't good for my valves or cams.

The car drives fine and isn't making any funny noises but i'm concerned that I may have mucked something up.

Thanks

Do you have the stock ecu? If so, it will prevent over revving on upshifting. The stock tach is notoriously off so you don't have to worry about a thing.

Redline is below 6700RPM? Damn, things I should know when I shift at 7,000RPM passing

you didn't damage anything most likely. I shift at 7k on my 110k mile Si all the time. The fuel cut is at 7200 or so. The tach is probably off but yeah, the ecu will prevent over revs.

over-rev protection from ecu even on an obd0 engine?

I didn't think that the crx had a rev safety on it

Thanks

This isn't true, most oem manufacturers have a fuel cut, however a lot of chipped ecu's as well as tunable ecu's like hondata/motec/ems do not.

A6 fuel cut is at 7200. I constantly have it on the rev limiter at autocrosses and the track. You won't hurt it, other than accelerated rod bearing wear. Valves probably won't float until around 8000.

Dyno charts have shown that the D16A6 peaks around 6400 or so . . . it's not as far off from a D16Z6 as Honda wants you to believe. I've seen stock A6es and SOHC ZCs put 114hp to the ground.

it does feel like after 6500 theres nothing left in it.
stock zc's laid down 114whp, i wish i could see where im at. i still dont see why everyone takes it to fuel cut, your not accelerating any faster.

the stock tachs are WAY off. BUT on the dyno, running advanced +8 on the cam my motor is still climbing for power when we hit the 7200 fuel cut.

i shift at ~6k in my a6, i have never touched redline on my car according to stock tach, but thats cause im paranoid, and poor.

i have long wondered what i would need to do to raise that line safely. i know i would probably have to replace the valve springs w/ after market peices, and maybe a higher lift cam? but what else to safely rev higher but maintain streetability? any thoughts? im running completly stock d16a6.

Wrong, my std didn't have a rev limiter. Thats an 88 pm5 ecu nor the 91 dx pm5 it put in. Now with mpfi, im runnin an 88pm6 and it doesn't seem to redline ever?? its crazy, it seems like it doesn't have a redline, it just keeps going. Weird...

also, my A6 was throwing a code for the O2 and that eliminated the fuel cut... ;-) found that out on the dyno too lol when the snap on gun ran to 7400 ;-)

i redline it daily on my a6 with 173k like i said. but another reason i dont shift till 7200 is because when i hit second i chirp the **** out of the tires....just makes me feel like i have more power
