For best accerlation use the ZC tranny. But the ZC trans has an intermediate shaft and equal length axels. Meaning your stock ones wont work, assuming you have dx/si hubs, you can change to integra axels of an early year which I am not positive of which year. Also the ZC has a short final drive so its not a commuters' friend.

The Si uses your stock si/dx axels and has good acceleration but unequal length axels. This is a big leg up from the HF/DX but not too much behind the ZC.

DX has the same 1-5th gearing as the Si but a longer final drive. Giving the car a better fuel economy and much more pleasant cruising rpm at higher speeds.

HF 4 speed, 2nd gear ends at around 85mph. This would make your ZC feel like a dog, long gears aren't good for acceleration. Would only buy this if absolutely necessary to drive the car. - Darrell

im kind of new to transmissions. what difference does the final drive make??

so they si and dx axles are the same??

ive going to be doing a fair bit of highway driving, but i would like decent acceleration.

im goin all motor for this year maybe boosting next year.

is there a big difference in acceleration between dx and si??

i'm not sure if they ever made 4 speed hf's but the 5 speed one's are just like he said. they are a dogs. I had a dohc zc turbo with the zc tranny and it hauled ***. Never compared it to anything though, so I wouldnt know how others performed.

i would recomend getting an Si tranny with an HF ( i think thats it) 5th gear. It will accelerate awesome, and for the freeway shift to 5th

A hybrid USDM SI/JDM ZC tranny would have the shortest gearing

zc is a bit mistaken
hf trannies are 5 spd with really long gears
the std trans is the 4 spd

yes you can. I rmemeber having a site bookmarked who built custom D series trannys... AND there is a guy on here who does it out of texas i think.

But they use the Si tranny case and diff, the ZCs 1-4 and an Hf 5th and i think the final drive was out of an Si tranny too

I just did my swap about a week ago zc with zc tranny if you go with the zc tranny make sure the you have half shaft , i hard time finding it , you need 90-93 integra axels , i have not tried out mine yet but i have seen some bad *** civic with zc trannys

Behold for I speaketh the truth.

SI and DX axles are the same.
ZC axles are a totally different animal (=90-93 teg axles) and require a ZC intermediate shaft as it was just said.

SI and DX trannies have all the same gears 1 through 5, the only difference is final drive (which is ring gear that goes around differential, plus countershaft, which has teeth cut into it to match that specific ring gear. together they make a "final drive").

Whatever the gears of any tranny are, they are all affected by final drive - since final drive is what transfers all the spinning power to the differential, and eventually to axles. Shorter final drive makes all the gears shorter (meaning the tires make more rotations per set amount of engine's RPMs), longer final drive makes all the gears longer.

SI final drive is the shortest: 4.25
DX final drive is 3.88
ZC final drive is 3.88, yes you are right, it is the same as DX
HF FD is so unspeakably long, I didn't even take a labor of memorizing it. There are two types of HF final drive as well - regular and Californian, latter being even worse.

ZC trannies have very short gears, but their relatively long final drive mellows them out, making a ZC tranny overall about as productive as SI.

Clutches and flywheels do not differ between SI or DX or ZC, the only difference is in year of car production.

Any SI-DX-ZC of 88 will have the same kind of a flywheel - clutch -pressure plate
Any SI-DX-ZC of 89 will have the same kind of a flywheel - clutch -pressure plate, but different from 88
Any SI-DX-ZC of 90 and 91 will have the same kind of a flywheel - clutch -pressure plate, that is different from either 88 or 89.

A 90-91 clutch can be used with an 89 tranny, but you'll have to upgrade your flywheel to a 90-91 as well.

An 89 clutch can be used with a 90-91 tranny, with an 89 fly, if you ever wanted to do it for some reason.

An 88 clutch has to be used only with 88 tranny, these two stand all by themselves.
There are ways to upgrade it as well, but they are beyond the scope of this review (to say it simplier - I don't remember).
