Default yay!, im learning! couple of questions though...

alright, so the past couple of weeks i have been practicing doing TIG on some scrap steel tubing and plate that are lying around the projects lab at school. i have been able to maintain control of the pool and heat without pumping the pedal, and have also been able to get the welds to "look proper." however, i am now being limited by the broken gas cup on the torch(it has a chunk missing out of one side). i feel that this is responsible for the welds not looking clean, but really have no idea of what kind to buy as a replacement. also, i really have no idea how different sizes of tungsten play a role with the material that i am welding either. does anybody know of some reading i can do online that will give me a little better idea of how all of this comes into play with each other?

also, the machine is an Econotig, and i dont know what kind of gas cup to get for it.

thanks,
Parker

Just take your old cup down to the weld supply store and get a replacement. They will help you find one.

I prefer a gas lens, and a large cup, unless I can't get a large cup where I can get to it. The guys at the store will help you. Just don't let them talk you into a setup that doesn't use a gas lens.
