Default i have a queston about welding

hi guys, you will have to excuse me because i am a newbe in the welding world. i want to fabricate a set of seat brackets for my new seats and i want to try it myself. all i really have to do is weld a plate to the seatbrackets that i already have and drill new holes, no big deal. is there any form of welding that i could do that does not involve spending alot of cash. isnt there something like a welding rod that i could use a torch with to weld them up? let me know what i need to do. thanks

what kind of torch are you talking? oxy-ace? you can weld with an oxy-ace torch sorta like a tig. i dont believe a propane torch will get hot enough to melt the metal you are welding so you will basically be brazing it which wont hold up on seat brackets. i was in your same situation a while ago before i had my welder and i just bolted the metal to the seat bracket. its probably not the best thing but it has held up fine. or drive to harrisburg and i'll weld it up for you

what exactly is an oxy-ace and what kind of welding rods would i need to get if all else fails i might just bolt them on

Bolt it securely, or have somebody weld it. If you bolt it, don't use dinky little bolts, and get something like a grade 8. Safety is most important. You don't want your seat breaking loose in the case of an accident.

oxy-ace is oxy-acetylene. it is what a lot of shops uses to heat metals to bend them. it is just oxygen mixed with acetylene to produce a very hot flame. i believe you would just use normal welding rods that you use for tig
