Does anyone know if the foam "racing" seats that summit and jegs sells are legal for drag racing? It's going into my daily driver and I'll only swap them in during racing so I can use my 5pt harness otherwise, I just wanna run a stock seat in the streets.

 

Yes they are. If you run the harness correctly, then the stock seat is fine too.

Aren't reclineable seats not legal for drag racing?

 

I run a stock seat and nobody has ever said anything to me. The nhra rulebook states that a 5pt harness may be used with a stock seat being that it is bolted to the chassis correctly, so I do not see why it wouldn't be legal. Anyone else have any input?

 

how do you mount the nut crusher strap on stock seats?

 

Same way you do on a racing seat, there just is not a slot provided for you. You run it under the middle of the seat, around the front, and clip in into the harness. Make sure you consult the rulebook on where you need to mount it to the chassis. Alot of people make the mistake of mounting it to the frame right in front of the crotch, where in fact it needs to be ran all the way under the seat behind the driver.

most and all racing seat beats 5 point are legal as long as they meet the requirements of being 3 inch wide and come with SFI tag with expiration and seat belts are good for 2 years after production date
