Mold in carpet-what to do?
So, lostmyboost recently discovered that there is tons of mold growing under his floormats (on the carpet). The mold is white and really really smelly. A few sites that I visited suggested the replacement of the carpet. Has anyone had this problem? Will we really need to replace the carpet or is there a simpler solution?
simple is spray a ton of tilex on it. of course your carpet will be all orange a psychedelic looking. rip it out clean the floor pan and put new carpet in it. look for leaks that caused it and fix them.

I guess you would want to get new carpet. It makes sense... Otherwise you would have to like hella deep clean yours. But new carpet is cool, fresh looking, and not sunbleached. The only problem is that mold can usually grow back. It might "look" gone, but it can grow back. Sometimes a disaster restoration place might have the equipment to get rid of it for good. But in some cases they have to scrap the surface the mold was growing on. It depends on how bad. But I wouldn't spend the large amount for new carpet without being sure it is gone for good.
Best thing to do is replace the carpet and scrub down the floorboards with bleach or something else strong before installing the new one. Mold can grow back very easily once it has a strong foothold.
Try a search to see where you can find inexpensive aftermarket replacement carpets online; I know there have been a few threads about it in the past.

WOW, he never told me about that until now lol...my apologies! Brandon is convinced the little one is on a mission to destroy his car lol...
So, I finally convinced him to get new carpet but it will be a few weeks. What should we do in the meantime? Rip up the carpet and scrub?

the mold spores can also hide in the seats, too, and under the dash and everything. when i found mold in my car, i pulled out the carpet completely and today, a year later, haven't put it back because i don't have my leak 100% fixed. mold, once the spores are there are a bitch to get rid of, i just tried to remove everything that the mold could grow on and wait like a year (of course washing it down and stuff

tip for any good housewife, and all boyfriends who have a girlfriend who refuses to clean his car:
Take a tiny amount of washing detergent (machine wash keeps it from foaming and making white stains)
Get some HG stain remover for fruit. Mix in a little dish washing soap or something. That's good for food remains.
Spray liberally on the carpet.
Let it soak for a good 10 minutes.
Put a whole bunch of towels under the carpet, and rinse it out with water.
I then lifted my carpet up, and pet it dry with the doors open.
Use undiluted bleach or preferrably rubbing alcohol on the floor boards. Don't even let a drop of it get onto upholstery. It'll eat right through it.
Result? Nice fresh and good smelling carpets without stains and nastyness.

There is one more thing that can do to get rid of the spores. Put bleach in a container (bowl or something) and place it in the car and just let it sit when your friend is not driving. What happens is the spores shoot out from a "mother spore". that is how they spread. now when they shoot out, they will land in the bleach and send the poison back to momma. This is something that i have done in my old apartment and it worked. got this solution from a specialist. let me know if it works..........

Spores drift in the air.
They pick up the bleach molecules that also float in the air.
The spores drift back down to form new mold.
Take the bleach along for the ride, thus poisoning the mold colony.
