Default 91 Accord EX Possible Auto-Transmission Prob?

I have a 91 EX that I bought 2 years ago from a dealership with just over 200K miles on it now. It has always shifted kinda hard (IMO). I have been very dutiful in checking fluids and making sure most aspects of my car are taken care of. I have not flushed the tranny because the fluid is clean and has never lost any. The problem happens when I accelerate rapidly into 4th gear. A few seconds after leveling off my speed my car kinda lurches and the tach jumps about 300-500 RPM's without any increase in speed. Is this a sign of impending transmission failure? The transmission is marked with '91' with some other stuff like it came out of junkyard before it was put in the car. Thanks for any insight or suggestions.

well with over 200k not matter what maitence is done parts get tired, i would say either start looking for a new tranny or if you really love it h22 w/tranny swap, then you'll be happy

Well as far as shifting hard, that is a trait of some of the older Honda’s so no worries there.

As far as the symptoms you are explaining I would recommend taking it to a tranny shop and get a free test drive. Since it is happening in fourth gear as you decelerate it may be your torque converter but its hard to diagnose without taking it for a drive.

first off you have to understand how a automatic for that car works
when you drive it you should feel it from 1-to-4 shift and when you get to a cruiseing speed in 4th there is what is know as torque converter lock up.
this is when you feel the car go into a small drop in Rpm's you can watch the tach do this also... but the Transmission goes from a 1:2 ratio to a 1:1 lock up meaning that the torque converter is in a fixed speed with the engine at that time it helps increase you gas mileage and wear on the torque converter if you find that its doing this when your just cruising and not trying to change speeds they you might have a Failing torque converter or T.c.c. also it is not uncommon with older hondamatics to start to shift ruff when the clutch linings start to wear down..
