Car won't idle unless headlights are on
Damn....I know someone who has the same problem. He has a 2nd Gen Gsr though. I don't know why......Does it have a really rough idle or does it go from 900-1200-900-1200...etc? Or something like that
I don't have a hunting idle. It will okay, then jump up, then die. But only on warmup. I checked the car out at Advance Auto Parts, and the car reads out at 14.9 volts. what grounds are you talking about, and where. The Vtec ground is in, and the battery ground. Where else?
I have a 92 S that I swapped a h22a into. Outside of the Vtec, battery ground, what other grounds are there. I've worked through the checklist of idle problems, replaced the vacuum hoses, replaced the IACV, FITV, Main Relay. I however, can't figure out how to test the TPS with puncturing the wires themselves. I would love some more suggestions and ideas. One more thing, if I've been driving on the highway for about 30 minutes, the car idles on the low side, approx 600 rpms but won't stall out.
More questions, suggestions, ideas please.

If the car is pretty stock, there is a ground from the tranny to the battery neg, valve cover to the motor mount and frame (cam gear side), and one on the bottom of the thermostat housing that is for the ECU. It wouldn't hurt to remove these wires, sand down the mounting spot and replace with a some new wire.

If his car has seen more than 5-6 winters in the snow, then his grounds can have lost adequate connection through corrosion.
This is the easiest and cheapest fix. Just do what Hawkze said first. Then check your vacuum lines for leaks. If it is happening only in the cold weather, it could be the IAC.

I was thinking that because my headlights were on, the IACV compensated for the extra load by bring up idle. I will check the grounds though.

You obviously have never seen salt corrosion from snow management... In fact, you probably have never driven in snow. The only ice you gotta worry about is from Sea World....
