Transmission swap
Hi
I recently bought a used crx hf with a used tranny put in
The previous owner mentioned that the new transmission shifted differently
like it reved higher
How do I know if I got the HF gearing in this new one?

If you had a hf you would know it..
long *** gears..No acceleration..You could be on the highway in 5th gear doing 200mph and only be at 2800rpm..
Just ask previous owner what trans it is..

I found some specs but I don't know what they mean
It says it has an L3 transmisson
It also has some ratios
1st 3.25
2nd 1.650
3rd 1.033
4th 0.823
5th 0.694
These ratios are different from the DX and SI ratios

Why are you topping out at 3100 rpm's? Does the car accelerate quickly when you get on the gas or does it take a long time to get up to speed?

It gets up to 3100 rps quickly not slowly
The previous owner paid 1200 to get the new used transmission in
It is still under warranty I need to make my case so they will put the stock tranny in

You are probably the only person on the earth that is mad they don't have an HF tranny. I can't believe that you are actively in peruit of obtaining an HF tranny for use in a vehicle. I think you shoul have yourself nominated to be added the list of people that want their car to go slower.

What I want is excellent mileage that is the reason for the gearing
OK
That is also the reason I bought the damn CRX HF and now I find I paid a f***** high price and I don't have stock..... ****

In order to change the HF tranny in a HF CRX to a DX or Si tranny, you have to change axles and front hubs. They may have put the wrong gears(DX or Si ) in your tranny. I had a buddy that took his HF CRX to the drag strip just for fun and he only had to shift one time. He went through the end of the 1/4 mile in 2nd gear. If you bought the car for good MPG, then I would take it back and demand they make the tranny right.
so let me get this
u have a transmission that was build for drag most likely
and????
u want to change it out for a stock long gear ratio stock HF trans.....
WoW
I guess there is different types of people in the world(honda-tech)

I researched this car for months specifially for the mileage
I don't want a CRX for racing and stuff
I don't know what the transmission was built for really
But If I find out what you say is true that it is for racing Well then maybe someone will want it and I can get what I want
How do I find out what I have are there serial numbers?
Nobody here seems to know and I thought you guys were experts

That's not true.
The HF axles will fit into the DX or Si tranny just fine.
The DX/Si axles do NOT fit into the HF hubs though.
Anyway, just because you shift more, do you really get all that worse gas milage? The engine is still super weaksauce. I'm curious what MPG you are getting.

Well, you have to provide enough information for us to be able to tell you what you have. Just saying my car has X engine, so what X tranny do I have??? doesn't help.
On another note as stated earlier, you are the only person I have ever heard that actually wanted the HF tranny. As long as you drive smart with any tranny, you will get good gas milage.
Other than that, I would just get a different transmission and sell the one on the car now. That way you can have the hf tranny and make some cash on the deal if the tranny you have is really "built".

Well, an HF tranny is worth about $50 in good condition. I have no clue why he paid $1200... that is insane.
Secondly, here's what you need to do: Find someone on this board with an HF CRX, and tell them that you want their HF tranny in direct trade for your built one. Make them do all the labor for free since you would be getting the short end of the deal, and then everyone is happy.
BTW what year is your HF?

Yeah I'm working on finding a HF tranny
How much is my SI worth?
why do you call the SI "built"?
My HF is a 1990
Thanks

Well, your Si tranny isn't worth much more than $200-300. I'm not sure why the guys on here are calling it "built". It's probably just a rebuilt tranny with new parts... But there are probably more than just a few HF owners out there that would love this transmission in thier CRX. It will make the acceleration faster, and make the car easier to tolerate.
I really don't think you should swap it out though... even with an Si motor in my old Civic, I would get about 36mpg. I'd assume that with your HF motor (D15) you should still get about 40mpg or better, with the added benefit of easier drives through town.
