Default b18c5 or h23a

i just got my 98 civic hatch. what do you guys recomend i swap, the b18c5, or a h23a? i know the basic specs, but what would create the most power in the long run when i turbo it. and what would be worth it, because i know the b18c5 is much more expensive. but aparently the h23a has higher stock whp. so uh... im at a loss. the only thing i like a ton more about the b18 is it redlines at like almost 9k.

h23a does not have more stock WHP then a b18C5..an h22 might..since ur cars a hatch, i would just get a GSR b18c1 and build it up, but then i dunno what your goals are.

^^^^^what he said.

The H23 only makes 160 flywheel hp, unless I'm mistaken, so don't even think about that.

If you're going boost, don't even bother with the C5. That's alot on compression to deal with.

Economically, go with the GSR motor and build it up.

not realy, the b18C5 has beefeyer combustion chambers and the head comes factory port and polished then if you are going for boost install loer compression pistons and u should be able to run a higher boost that with a c1

I am an H series guy myself but to save money and hassle. I would just do a b18b its cheaper to get that drop out. Also when you turbo it will still run great. Just my 2cents

True . Even a stock Ls motor with a turbo kit can be made pretty fast in a hatch. I have seen 12.20's in a 2000 civic coupe with a stock LS turbo.

generally type R engines do dyno a few more WHP than H22s. Its the torque the H22s rape with..

so the most potential is a gsr engine? im planning on putting a turbo on which ever one i put in, so would an h22 be better to boost, or the gsr.

yes H22 is more powerful than an h23..........your question regarding h22 vs gsr your going to have to figure out for yourself. there are endless conflicting opinions on all the dohc vtec honda engines. I chose h22 for great torque for a daily. Plus I wanted to stay NA. I've experienced b-series motors and for me the h22 is funner.............John

I wish there was a way to quote everyone that has responded to the original poster because YOU'RE ALL WRONG!

He's talking about the JDM H23A (which is a phenomenal engine) with is rated factory rated at 200HP and 163TQ. If you don't know what you're talking about or if you're unsure about what you're saying, then why even bother making a post?

By the way, get the JDM H23A because it owns all and the low-end torque will make you **** yourself

^^^Everyone who posted some bullshit getting owned^^^

the h23a has potential, but it is not a very popular motor, and it is almost ridiculous to compare it to an itr motor. The itr will be superior in the long run due to the much higher compression, and all the aftermarket support you could ever ask for.

On the other hand, there is no replacement for displacement, so you could always throw an h22 head on the h23 and call it a day.

jsut my $.02.

I like the fact that it's not a very popular motor...it makes things that much more fun! True, the B18C5 is an excellent motor. However, as for the aftermarket support for the JDM H23A's, almost any H22A part is interchangable

So why is this question being asked in All Motor? Anyway, just get an ls and turbo it.
