Fuel gauge acting odd...please take a look
When I searched this I found alot of unanswered questions and some info but I need to ask anyway. My fuel gauge dropped below "E" this morning. I was at the gas station about three minutes later and filled it up completely and the gauge will not go up at all. I've seen lots of stuff about fuel sending units but I would hope that this is a faulty gauge issue. Any takers?
mine has acted up a few times also,i was driving around after i filled her up and it just started to shoot to E i pulled over to see if it was leaking any and nothing got back in and it was back up at F.......i would like to know also

i dont think u need to drop the tank for the sending unit. it's under the rear seat. plz corect me if i'm wrong
My mom's car has a problem with the fuel gauge too. It will go up then down, the stay in the same spot and stuff. When parked on a hill facing upwards it says full, when parked the other way it says empty. This really pissed me off because I ran out of gas twice in it so I did some searches on faulty fuel gauges. I dunno if this is your problem but if sulfur gets into your gas it will almost immediatly screw up your gauge. So bad gas could be the problem. So like I said, could be bad gas, could be one of the other suggestions.
By the way - My mom's car is a 1997 Chevy Lumina, but I am not sure that has anything to do with the reason.

yea i've never had the gas gauge working in my ef, i just fill up every 200 miles! but having a funcional gauge could help a lot. i did notice one time i had to slam on my brakes to avoid deers so guessing all the gas just got forced towards the front of the tank or whatever, then and ONLY then my gas gauge rose up and then it went back down close to E.....so i dont know whats wrong..

on these cars, the senders seem to get messed up, but most of these sound like there is a short or a break somewhere in the wires. try pulling your rear seat/compartment thing and unscrewing the thing in the middle and make sure that no water has gotten in the grease of the plug underneath there. happened to me, and after the fix, working fuel gauge.
I was under the impression that you had to drop the tank to replace the fule sending unit. I do not have the cargo compartment currently in my crx so the circular thingy that was under the cargo compartment is visible...or should I say exposed? Anyway, I'm going to try to swap clusters with someone and see if it works.
