I have the wonderful prelude surge problem. 1000 bounce to 1500. Every once and a while 1000 to 2500. I have searched this on h-t and gave no resolve! I have replaced the iacv, the fast idle valve, all of the vacuum lines, bleed the collant, spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I had checked by spraying starting fluid and no surge from that. I sware I hate my prelude its embarrising to drive and just plane a pain. I finally had it today (3 hours in traffic) If I can't fix it Its gone.
If someone gives me a resolve to this problem I will give you 50 buck!

Mine does that but I have found no way to solve it. For me it only does it when
its hot outside and the AC is on. My car has never stalled from it so I don't really
worry about it. I figure its just the 4-banger trying to do too much at once.

throttle body has never been touched but I check it anyway and it is at the correst voltage, It also does it with all the acc's on or off. There is no check engine light. The car it 100% stock . The dealer couldn't even figure it out!
Try this: http://www.92lude.com/idle_air...d.htm
Maybe your second IACV is shot too...just trying to cover everything.

I know exactly what you mean.
My problem was on the tb, there is a screw that comes out, i thought it was the idle adjustment but it made a vacuum leak.
p.s. Id either take it to a shop or to honda.

I think tonight I'm just going to take all of the extra vacuum boxes ect like it were swapped into a civic and see what happens?
When did this issue start??
I had a surging problem when I swapped my H22 into my car, it turned out to be a vacuum hose that had a small hole in it. The one on the top of the manifold near the throttle body.

Try blocking off the fast idle valve under the throttle body. Just remove it and sandwich a piece of cardboard between it & the tb when you screw it back on. If that stops the surging, you know it's an issue with the fast-idle valve and you can troubleshoot from there.
Or you can leave it blocked & reroute the coolant lines to avoid the intake manifold completely, and leave it at that.

not a bad manifold gasket huh
its gotta be a vaccum leak some where on the manifold or TB, are you sure that everything is connected well?? i left one off/poorly connected once, and the idle would surge up and down

95 prelude bone stock. the hatch is built and has no problems. The iacv and fast idle were both bought new from the dealer. It started about 4 months ago, and has made me drive my astro when I wanted to finish building it. So last week I just said **** it and started doing my astro so I forced myself to have to drive it eventhought it does that.
I had similar prob in a 94, the techs at the dealership said it was my EGR valve.?.?.? But mine too turned out to be the same vacuum hose as "AndyD" Check the EGR valve (at least thats what the techs told me) :::shrugs:::

took it from my civics manifold, cuz it has twm's so I think I've tried everything. I'm just taking a break from removing all of the extra bullshit that they put on the prelude vacuum system. I should be done in about an hour or so and I will post if it helped?? I HOPE
Did you change the coolant recently?
I used standard that air bubbles on the coolant can do this...
Also, a Vacuum leak or the EGR system can cause this too...
