i was turning the crank shaft to see if i could get her to move. IIt moved. I thought it was tottaly locked. but it moves. it moves and it movies and it locks up at this one spot. Like it hits something. My frist thought *stuck valve/bent* well if that was the case it would get locked in the SAME exact spot everytime i want a turn one way and back. And it was the case i was excited to know that maybe its not in the low end. But as i keep rotating it just to keep checking i find that it gets stuck almost randomly. i can turn it one way for a turn and a half on the crank shaft (or so) and then hit, when i go the other direction, i hit with maybe a quarter turn... Thats probably not a valve anymore is it. And maybe my ears fool me but as i spin the crank shaft when i can for a full turn i almost hear something hitting the bottom of the motor near the oil pan. Maybe its just me and maybe its just the cams pushing on the valve springs but it really sounds like somehting is off or loose down there and its wierd. *what it is that i picture is a rod snapped and hangs up on some things but as i turn it it gets loose then when i go back the other way it wont let me because it hits a contour that holds it up. This is no good. Im really thinking the problem is in the bottom end afterall and thats something i cant fix myself.

 

Check your timing belt. Redo everything to TDC and see what happenes from there.

Also only turn it counter clockwise as thats the way the motor going when it runs.

 

I doubt i can turn get my motor to tdc because wheni turn it it hits something and doesnt let me turn it anymore. Its wierd. then i start turning it the other way and it will hit somehting with only a quarter of a turn. then ill go back the other way and i may be able to turn it a full revolution. Its really random.

 

The helms says to NEVER turn the motor clockwise, so stop doing that. Are you sure that the it's "hitting" something, or does it just tighten up. I know that when I first turned the crank with my ratchet, I was surprised to find that it would get really hard to turn when the cam started to compress the valve springs. Then once you got to the height of the cam lobe, it would jump really fast as the cam let up on the valves. Mabey that is what your having...

If not, you may want to remove the head & see whats going on...

 

definately sounds like a valve problem but with your description of where its stopping it seems more likely that a valve would be stuck closed. I say its most definately in the head. its the only thing that makes sense. check the valves.

 

Ok guys. Everytime i talk to a mechanic they think its a rod. But w/e. Im towing it off tommorrow to a family owned mechanic business that i was recommended to. Tomorrow 7am. They guy that is going to work on it said he used to have a si and he has ins with a place that he can get JDM parts or motors. Hes going to see what the issue is and we will take it from there. Any other ideas let me know. thanks guys.

 

your probably best off having a pro look at it, btw is your complex going to pay for the repairs?

 

Yeah, I dont feel like doing it nor do i really know how to do it. But mostly time is the issue. Anywho. The complex is in the workings. I found another poor soul that the same thing happened too. A chick with a black eclipse was owned by the lake too. So i gotta talk to her. My lawyer is confident that its gonig to be taken care of. Also everyone in the complex is pissed. Im not too worried about it. I mean im going to take a load out to pay for it and if i get it paid back cool . if not life is a b**** and i move on. I dont see how they can just say f* you guys that have to pay each 3gs to fix your cars that we were neglegent to fix. They arent going to want that. W/e the better business burough will probably hear about it too if not. At this point i just want my car. And if i pay w/e.

Any other thoughts on the motor issue?

 

i don't know your situation but when i used to live in an apartment they were **** about me doing anything to my car let alone rebuild an engine, and at this point they will probably be looking for any excuse........
