I am going to order a set of door speakers for my EK. I have the factory EX tweeter assemblies behind my mirrors. I need to know are the tweeters 3/4 of an inch or 1 inch?

 

they are 1 inch, (id use the audio forum we covered this just reciently)

However when you put in speakers, you can use a 3/4, just use one of the surrounds that come with it, and do a little cutting of that stock mount so that it fits through that solid plastic outside... or do like me and have some space which will be filled with hot glue and black yarn smoothed out lol.... Ghetto, but not too noticeable.

 

3/4 I think. but with just about any non-factory tweeter you're gonna have to modify the housing... may as well get the speakers you want and bondo/shape/sand and paint accordingly. takes a little longer but it's well worth it...

you'll get more help with this process in the sound/security section but if you need a quick and dirty howto:

1. remove factory tweeters and attach new tweeter "cup" in any way possible (except tape) pointing in .
2. sand exterior, anywhere bondo will touch, roughing everything up.
3. mix and apply bondo, using tape to hold the basic shape till it "gels" and shave off large areas of excess before it hardens.
4. sand and re-apply till you get the exact shape you need/want keep in mind it has to clear the door frame.
5. sand until super smooth
6. fill any holes with a "glazing putty" I think it's called. should be red, in a little tube.
7. sand again, prime and paint... the more sanding you do the better it will look...

edit: yes the hole is 1" but I don't think I could get a 1" tweeter to fit and look good.....
