Magnaflow exhaust question
I am currently looking for a Magnaflow oval exhaust, I was looking for a Es oval, but they are too expensive for me. I have 2.25 inch piping, and my exhaust is loud as hell right now, and I want to change it. My question is for a civic hatch, which one is a better size to get? 5"x 8", or the 4"x 9"?? I want it to stick out a little bit from the bumper maybe bout an 1" or a 1 1/2". for anyone who has got a es oval or a magnaflow oval, how is the sound?, your input would be greatly appreciated. thanks
(and it if its kinda loud, what size resonator should I get? and how much do they run?)

i have a 2.5 magnaflow muffler and it's loud imo even thought i have a cat and big resinator. it's good but i rather have an es oval since it's much more quiet on my friend's car.

5x8 resonated and cat. still as I mentioned a little loud when I get on it but thats with turbo. Probably less dramatic on a stock car. I had a angle cut pipe welded to it so that the sharp side of the cut is inline with the end of the bumper. I dont like pipes that stick out and I like it to be less noticeable.

i don't have a resonator on it right now, just my cat, and thats it....to keep the noise down, i was thinking about gettin one though.....either that or just puttin some dynamat in my trunk where the spare tire is to deaden the sound from the inside..... how do you guys think that will work?

nice.......i like how that looks....is that the aluminized one? do they rust fast?, or should i go for the stainless one? im just really lookin for the rust factor.....or i might just get the aluminized one, and paint it with some high heat rustproof flat black spray paint

mine is stainless. I went with a completely stainless exhaust. manifold, downpipe, cat, resonator, muffler, and all pipes inbetween.

I have the Magnaflow alumnized on several of my cars for years now with no rust. If you want it quiet, get the longest muffler that will fit. Get a reasonable diameter for your application. Virtually all NA setups will get more power from a 2 inch diameter. The piping should be 2.25 though cuz they usually measure the OD, while the muffler is measured ID, and the thickness of the pipe makes all the difference. I'm not sure if I remember right, but I believe mine is 11 inches long. Break out the tape measure. I also have a Autozone cherry bomb resonator. My exhaust is quiet with a low tone and it gets all growly when you open it up. No Civic raspiness. People always assume I have a 1.8 liter. I get lots of compliments.

sweet....how much did your resonator cost? and what size resonator did you get?

My professional opinion....
Magnaflows are the highest performing and most durable muffler out there. All of them have a lifetime guarantee (and yes it includes rusting).
They sound good too. No raspy shittiness when used with a resonator.

so it will sound raspy when used without a resonator?

anything without a resonator will be raspy and loud (kazoo). I believe mine is 14", its a magna flow and they go for about 100. My obd-1 EF sound nice and deep, with the baffle in my car its dead quite.
