Default 256whp all motor civic

I just read the article in the 'Modified Mag' magazine on this hatch with a b18c1 putting down 256whp

On the setup, hes running a Renault high flow cat..

now my question is.. why would he run a high flow cat, rather then just cut the cat and put in a test pipe?

wouldnt he gain more power out of having no cat rather than a high flow cat?

It's illegal to run a test pipe and not friendly to the enviroment.. I run a cat on my 247 whp street car

Honestly my car needs to pass smog as its driven all summer long , so I run a cat.. Plus it's so loud and ugly sounding without it, it has that annoying rasp without it..

Nothing wrong with tree hugging but what would be wrong is not finding the potential extra power in using a test pipe at least for the track

In the article it said it had a 85 mm bore and a gsr crank I think. So yeah over 2 liters.

Road & Track tested on a dyno the difference between test pipes and Random Technology high flow cats on a Viper GTS. It made like 8WHP MORE with the cats in place.

Actually 85mm bore and gsr crank are 1997.

I dont need a test pipe because I run open header at the track...

i'm just kind of curious... how the heck do you pass smog with your setup? it sounds quite intense.

It's possible with having my wideband and laptop in the car.. I was suposed to run it through the day after I bent up my valves last time.. So I need to try as soon as the car is running again

thats because of the restirctions of the stock viper ecu not because of performance. If you put a standalone and tune before/after there would be at least a good 20-30hp on the viper.

LOL sex plugs are pure crap. I used them ONCE when I was running nitrous. On a 50 shot I melted one of these "pregaped and designed for nitrous and turbo import applications" plugs. Hell, the damn plug it self wasnt even a week old when it melted (and I mean the center metal core AND the external white ceramic).

Of course they are made in France, so there you go.

Seriously I switched to NGK plugs after that and didnt have ONE foul plug over the next year of nitrous use.

the test pipe still made more power then stock Im saying that the high flow cats mademore power then stock or with the test pipe. it had nothing to do with the ecu.

well you can decrease power by eliminating too much backpressure especially on small torqueless engines. I could see this happeneing on a civic with a large diameter straight through exhaust, since the cat creates some backpressure.

You could also put a resonator in where the cat is supposed to be which will flow better than even a high flow cat or you could just get an exhaust that is worth a damn.
