PTE Turbo is jacked
Posted a week ago about a bolt that broke off by its self.
Well all but 1 of the others did the same.

Apparently all the ones on the back side broke off by last Sunday, cause I heard the half of the retaier ring fall off. At the time I thought it was a tool I left under the hood.
Never got the bolts Rod said he would send, even though I pm'd him my address like he wanted.
Guess I'll have to call them tomorrow and see what they will do for me.
Just to restate, I never touched any of these bolts. The one bolt that hadnt broken off came out no problem.
The bolts seem to be crappy quality, altough the said 8.8 on the heads.
I also believe that the exhaust housing expands alot, which caused those bolts to break off.

Damn...Yeah thats jacked.
I'm kinda interested in what pte will say, although I still think they'll hook you up. Give me a call tomarrow after you call em up.
Back too the problem at hand...
Anyone else see this problem before?

He was going to replace the bolts with "better" ones that Rod told him he would send out. However, he never got any bolts.

and pte turbos are good ****</TD></TR></TABLE>
no they aren't not as good as their garret counterparts.
i'm thinking the casting that they use is super shitty.
I've never herd of a genuine garret part failling like this.
Also there was another thread about shaft play in a new PTE turbo.

See if they will take that housing back and give you another one with the proper hardware, cause it seems like a mess now to try and fix by extracting those broken studs.

Precision use Garret center sections and put there compressor and turbine houseing on .
I too have seen these bolts break and fall out of alot of turbos. I was told by PTE it only seems to happen to Hondas, Maybe the harmonics they produce at high revs.
I have used anti seeze and they still break off. Maybe need to use grade 8 bolts.

Thats exactly what he said in the pte shaft play thread about Mitsubishi's
The compressor side is complete fine, it has no increased shaft play.
I'm sure that the exhaust housing casting expands alot, and thats what caused the bolts to break off.
Well that and the bolts didnt seem to be quality. On one you can see it fractured and spider cracked were it broke.

Yeah... didnt change anything from my last setup, and I had that for 30k miles. Besides, the compressor side would have to be the side with stress on it for that to happen. The only thing that would put stress on that, would be the internal gate actuator. Which was basically the only reason it didnt actaully fall apart.

Dude,
I'm on here everyday, but never got a PM from you in order to help you out. I can't help you unless you contact me. I don't have an address for you.
As I said before, the issue is with the harmonics within the Mitsu engine. It doesn't matter whether you touched the bolts or not. Castings have nothing to do with the bolts either.
Please contact me so I can get this resolved with you. My office number is (219) 996-7832 and my personal e-mail is rodshort45@hotmail.com.

PTE turbos are some of the best turbos money car buy. Every sinlge brand is gonna have a handful of turbos that fail at one point and i gaurantee you PTE uses only the best castings and bolts on their products. I have a Garret t3/t4 .57 trim turbo that came off my car with less than 4000 miles on it that locked up completely on me. That doesnt mean Garret makes bad stuff, i just got a bad turbo. **** like this happens in racing/modifying cars, you just have to move on and hope the manufacturer will stand behind their products, and PTE definitely stands behind theirs.

okay buddy get off the PTE bandwagon. The only reason why your running a PTE turbo is because all the sponsors on HONDA-tech are whoring it out like a cheap $20 hooker.
I have a brand new GT3255E PTR turbo and if i could get it as a genuwine garret part, then i would.
and lets not turn this into a PTE vs Garret thread...

Just for the record, I'll be running a 5" down pipe.
First one here on honda-tech that will be running a 5" down pipe..
Btw, this 5" down pipe is going a GSR Greddy Turbo Kit..
