what?
Yeah, it's been done. Final drive on both is 4.27, but the gearing is different. Can't remember which is shorter though...search around and you'll find it.

It is very common in our cars. It saves money because you can just get a H22 Long block and get an ECU seperately. I have just heard of a few people doing that. If you search in the FAQs in this prelude section, you'll find the exact gear ratios for the H22 and H23 tranny.
I found the gearing on 92lude.com: http://www.92lude.com/prelude_drivetrain_specs.htm

The H23 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears are a little longer than the 4th Gen H22 and only VERY slightly longer than the 5th Gen H22 tranny.
The 1st and 5th gears are the same.

Yup, AndyD is right there.
I have an H23 tranny on my H23 VTEC. I've driven an H22 w/ a H23 tranny as well. The difference is very minimal. IMO, don't plunk down the extra ~$400+ you'd spend on getting an H22 tranny, it's simply not worth the extra money.
