What brand / kind of paint should I use - would some flat black rustoleum in a can work well?

I know this has been discussed before and I searched and all I can find is how to paint your interior. Anyhow looks like someone started and used some crap paint so I would like to prep everything and do it right. The areas that need it the most are the door jambs and the spare area but I will do the whole car eventually.
