Default is backfiring bad???

well ive been backfiring lately, if im going and shift at like 6k and just engage the clutch it will backfire and shoot a bigass flame out. same if i just rev it to around 6k and let it drop.
is this bad? or am i just running hella rich or something. O and i dont really have any exhaust, i was on open header but now i have 3 inch all the way back to the lca.

mmm, well if you didnt mention the ffire shooting out yor exhaust them i wouldnt worry about it.back firing is usually when out side air is mixing with the combusted gases.
