Default Post your fitment Pics / Issues 96-98 --> 99-00 civic front end conversion!

I've read / seen all the covnersion threads such as:

"What all do I need?"
"Do I need the radiator support bracket?"
"How much for the conversion?"

This is not one of those threads!!!

This thread is strictly for those who have done the conversion and have fitment issues or have worked out the minor kinks. Maybe we can get a nice "How-To fit a 99-00 front end on your 96-98 like OEM" together.

When I first mounted the 2000 front end to my 1996 Cx, I was not happy at all. The fitment around the inside part of the headlights / center grill were horrible. After a little cutting of the bumper the fitment is 10X better in that area.

I still have the gaps between the fender / bumper / closer to the headlight problem. I picked up some bolts / washers / wing nuts and strips of sheetmetal to heopfully sandwhich the gaps out.

As you can see the fitment is not OEM quality, but still not that bad. I personally am still not happy with the fitment, but will see how the sandwhiching goes with the fender / bumper gaps.

Just would like to see other fitment pics of those who did this conversion

You can see in the first pic the fitment is not to bad. Yeah, the drivers side headlight gap underneath is a little larger than the passenger side. Hopefully the sandwhiching trick on the fender/bumper will help that out:

Here's a better pic of the drivers side. If I can narrow the fender/bumper gap with the sheetmetal I bet the gap under the headlight pulls out nicely

For some reason the bumper sits in a little further than the fender

Another full front end shot. Looks like I'm in the fetal position

No far away shots at this time since I only had about 7 feet in front. Fog lights will be installed as soon as I get new hardware (bro lost the screws)

If anyone cares to post up a true 1999-2000 front end and how the fitment should be, go for it Give up 96-98 guys something to work for

the best way to make it look good is to get the radiator support from a 99-00 civic coupe or si. then everything would fit like it came out from the factory.

here is my attempt at the front end conversion. I did the conversion yesterday, it took my friend and I about 2 and half hours to do. Disassembly was EASY, but we faced a few problems with the front bumper and hood

here is what my car looked like before we started.

mind you my car is all stock so dont make fun... but the two problems main problems were the hood and bumper. There are two original bolt connector things that attach the bumper to the radiator support. The bumper didnt allow the fitment of the bumper to match with the radiator support. So we cut the clips off. It isnt noticable at all. here check out the pictures.

the rest of the body lined up pretty well except for the hood here are some pics.

and my hood... for some reason it will not shut all the way...i have NO idea why.. EVERYTHING lines up perfectly, but the damn hood wont go down.... i dont know... but if ANYONE can help me out with this thatd be GREAT! thanks

over all i think the project was easy... no 99-00 radiator support needed.. any questions feel free to ask.

i did, all my parts (except hood) were from the same car. The previous owner shaved the moldings, so i had to strip the paint, so i could chizzel out the bondo... thats why my fenders were primered.

thats the 100% correct way to do it, but if your not using the 99-00 rad support, my way works too

I'm doing one this week . I already took off the 98 front end easily over the weekend. It's not hard at all, but the radiator support was damaged in the accident, so I'm not sure how easy it'll be getting everything right again. Hopefully I won't have to go through all the trouble like DxBurnoutKing did

my fit perfectly..

you have to bend the rad support up alittle to make it line up just right.. it will bolt up perfectly..

The only advice i can give, is get OEM parts.. it makes a world of difference. granted there are some quailty aftermark counterparts, nothing beats OEM...

p.s. it's a 97

this is the best i have, i dont have pics of the rad support but i had to do some adjusting on my hatch i had.. it fit fine on that too.. i've had three ek's and have done all 99 front conversion on them.. the hatch had some fit issues b/c it was wrecked before and they didn't fix it right.. You do not have to change the rad support unless it needs to be changed or it has been fixed and not done right..

well, if you have a gap between the fenders and the bumper then you would pry the rad support up alittle. but, this is saying you use OEM parts and not aftermarket parts. Most of the aftermarket stuff, will not line up no matter what you do. Or other case senrio, the front of the car has been wrecked and they did not fix the rad support correctly. There are too many variables involved. Im just saying, that if your car has never seen a wreck and you use OEM parts, everything will line up without changing out the rad support.

i forgot bout this one. This hatch had a bad front end damage, and they did a crappy job fixing the rad support.. still bolted up ok..
