Im having trouble with my mini me. Its a 95 eg with a d15b7(dx) block and a d16z6 head (ex/si)
- 1st the car wont start, it cranks but doesnt start only sometimes
- when i finaly get it to start, the timing belt makes this high pitched whyning noise because it rubbing on the side i guess that makes the noise
... i already checked the timing and readjusted the the tension on it as bauleycivic had told me. oh yeah i didnt buy the distributor with the head so i know the ignition timing is off.
some pics....

1st: are you throwing any CEL's?
2nd: the whinning noise is just the belt being tight. If it kinda sounds like a super charger thats what it is. My mini-me swap does the same thing because the timing belt was extremely tight

the CEL cant even come on cus the engine is not even on that long and the whinning noise is REALLY LOUD!
Ill try to get some short vids tomarow, its really loud it sounds like the timing belt is being raped or something, similar to when you turn a car that has power steering all the way to one side and it makes that awful loud noise

yeah like what he said..might be because of you having incorrect belt thats making that whining noise..

the timing belt i have is the d16z6 (it says p28 on the belt). I think the cam gear is off by half a tooth or a tooth. Bauley told me that it should be half a tooth off either advanced or retarded.
if i am off by only one tooth will it really make my car not start?
ill try to get some vids tomarow morning its late now

im using a d16z6 dizzy that i bought off an HT member, is there anyway to tell for sure that it is infact a z6 one?
taht i cant say, i dun remember. you mightve turned the rotor 180 by accident. ive seen a few ppl that has done that. when you did your timimg belt, you set the crank and cam at TDC, correct ? id take out the dizzy rotate that piece by 180 and try starting it.

yeah timing belt seems to be good, crank at TDC and cam gear at TDC . ill rotate the piece on the dizzy 180 degrees like you suggested. is there anyway to tell on the dizzy piece which way its supposed to be facing ?

yes if you have your timing belt off by even a tooth, it either wont run or if it does run it runs terrible.. did you make sure that the crank was exactly at TDC and that the head cam gear matched up with both the TDC marks on the plastic cam gear cover... also when you put the belt on sometimes the crank will move and you will no longer be at TDC..
Also it doesnt seem right to me for it to be whining, because i finished up a mini me swap on my brothers crx last week and i tightened up the tensioner as hard as i could and it doesnt whine...
And it wont really matter how the distributor is on there just put it somewhere in the middle.. couldnt it be possible that the distributor is 180 degress off? thats all i could think of

hey i got the car to start now, the timing on the cam pulley was off by a tooth and a half and on top of that it was loose.
now its running really rich and when i gas it in neutral, it seems to want to shut off and the rpms rise kinda lslow... could it be my ignition timing?

any time you make changes to your cam timing,
you must redo/adjust your ignition timing accordingly.
dont remember what exactly you have to to to the ignition timing,
but i'm sure you can find out.
also... check ur tps,
always check that durrned tps!

Whining = triple check your belts.
then triple check your cam timing.
when my cam timing was off, it had a hard time stopping. It would turn over once or twice and get stuck. But sometimes it would start.
Good luck.

hey i got everything fixed today and my car is running pretty smooth
- the whinning noise was the alternator belt which was loose, it got tightened and it fixed the problem
- my friend did the ignition timing and now its idling good and there is no power loss.
thanks for the help everyone
...now im not sure if vtec is activating, maybe cus i still need those damn ecu pins
...oh and my temp gauge never goes up, it just stays all the way down all the time. anyone know what is causing this?

for the temp guage, the sender is under the dizzy. if it isnt plugged in, no signal to the cluster

you should never use a test light to check sensors, do you have a multimeter? check the resistance and the voltage. i,m not sure of the resistance but the voltage shold read 0-1 v and rise as the car heat up and then read 5v when warmed up. also have you driven the car sometimes my motor will never fully heat up untill i drive it.

have you ever heard a sohc vtec engine before?
they dont sound like bseries, vtec is alot more subtle.
the changeover is harder to notice, but basically..
if your keeps on making power up on high ,then its working,
if it dies off like crap then its not.
