94 Accord LX - stereo won't turn on
I have a 94 Accord LX with factory stereo/cassette. For the past few months, I will turn on the car and the stereo will be on for about 10 seconds, then it cuts out and loses power. Usually, after 10-15 minutes, it will kick back on and stay on until I turn the car off. Then the process starts all over again when I restart the car. This will happen for a few months at a time, then I'll go a few months where everything is OK. It was going good for a few months until one day I turned the ignition when the car was already running (it was noisy) and I've had the problems ever since. Sometimes I can pound on the side of the console and it will kick on. Fuses are all OK. Could this be something with the amp or loose wiring maybe? thanks.
Loose wiring most probably. You will need to check the power feed from the switch to the fuse to the radio... Check for anything loose, broken, burnt or chaffed.

Loose wiring, check the plugs in the rear of the deck and possible use a tester to see if you have power throughout the wire as far down as you can check. If it keeps coming on and off the fuses are fine it's a wiring issue.
Something is loose and luckly not grounding out.

after you take out the stock radio to check the wiring, throw the stock radio in the trash or sell it or pawn it, hell throw it in the road and watch it get ran over. and buy new cd player. i had a stock radio/cassette player when i bought mine and same stuff was happening, so i bought a new one hooked it up and it worked fine. but still check the wiring. and if you dont know what you are looking for just take it to any car audio place that gives a free diagnostic test on your radio and it will find the problem.
thanks for the advice. I had the shop look at it when I took the car in yesterday to replace the left front axle and they had no clue. I wanted to keep it so I could just get the FM adapter for my mp3 player but yes, this thing is going in the trash. The tape deck stopped working about 60,000 miles ago!
