Skunk2 IM or Ported LS IM?
I have been doing some thinking and ran across an old article on an Extrude Hone Ported LS IM. Now remember this is before Skunk2 came into the picture with their IM's. Well I own a Skunk2 IM personally and I like it, but there is something in the back of my head wondering should I port my old stock IM and test them out against each other?
Even though this is geared more toward the nonvtec communitty, I think it would be a good test, so we LS/B20's, as well as H23 allmotor guys can have possibility of extra routes to go instead of either stock, skunk2, or Blox!
I am curious myself to see if the ported stocker could take the Skunk2 piece, Im wondering if the longer runner may help produce more torque!
Thoughts and comments......

I'm currently running a ported LS manifold. And I've been considering switching to the Skunk 2. Maybe we could trade.
How strong does your low end feel?
My car is in hibernation for the winter, and wont' be tuned until the spring time, but it feels VERY torquey, and overall the power feels very linear.
I didn't end up going with a Skunk2 manifold for my build because from my understanding it basically shifts your powerband up, and may provide a small gain at high RPM (~8000 rpm?) at the expense of torque loss.
I don't have any first hand experience with it though, and I wish I did, so I've always wanted to try one.
Good luck with your decision.

Well I am using a Skunk2 IM manifold now and I like, but I was wondering how it conpared to a Ported Stock IM. I have my old stock LS IM and was thinking of testing them against each other after porting the stocker. I also was considering modifying my old Del Sol B16 IM to fit an LS and test that as well.
Also in the market for some ITB's. Some I want to get everything set up and test them out!

Thats just a comparison for a GSR motor. I have an LS! I made good gains with my Skunk2 IM but I am wondering how a ported stock LS IM would do, b/c the stocker has longer runners! These longer runners will help build velocity and help produce more torque!

Im taking leave for a week in March and hope to get my hatch ready and Port the stock IM and hopefully get me a set of ITB's so I can get them put together so hopefully I can get a test up!
Also interested to find out. I just bought a HB,and a LS swap. So I guess I'm going to throw them together. Hybrid_vtec, I was looking at your gains on the dyno. Have you had a chance to test your car out in the 1/4.
i don't own a non-vtec engine, but this is a very interesting article.
i own a b20/vtec right now, and it is being built right now, here's the thing i have a b16a2 head.
most people tell me go w/ the aebs, cuz it's the best bang for the buck and it creates for power than an itr and skunk 2 im.
However I, on the other hand, wanted a stock b16 intake manifold, which is known for it's powerband and torque below 8,000 rpms
i wanted to send the stock b16im to get it extrude hone. and tell him to cut it open n port n polish it and reweld it back up. wouldn't this be better than aebs/itr/skunk2 im combined? the powerband will add torque all over.
this is the route i was planning to go and NOT itbs.

no not yet but will be here soon. I havent had a chance to make it to the track b/c the closest 1/4 mile track is LA, since they closed down Carlsbad here. Also I have been plague by an oil leak which I will be fixing this weekend. I will post it up and soon as get a chance though!

Its not a bad idea, but extrude hone is more expensive than all 3 of those IM's combined. You may be better off doing it yourself or getting a friend or local machine shop to do it.
Also The OBD-1 Del Sol IM is the one that rocked the ITR IM. So get your hands on one of those to port out. IT rocked the ITR below 8K but if you open it up and not go extreme it may be good for 9K over the ITR IM.

I personally went from an LS (1994+) intake manifold to a Skunk2 on my B20. If anything, power delivery was MORE linear with the Skunk2 than the stock LS. I don't know about a ported LS, though.

Seeing this post made me wonder how a JG style IM would work. Is this what your planibg on doing?

I dont think so, the JG IM I believe is pretty big. I just plan on porting out the stocker and incresing its efficiency, so I can test it against the Skunk2 IM. I am hoping to get similiar or greater hp #'s with it but increase the torque #'s over the Skunk2 piece, since the LS has long runners.
This project isnt going to cost me anything out of pocket, except porting bits and dyno time. Thats why I want to doing it.
