H22 Build
I've contacted a custom builder in Las Vegas who has an H22 stroked engine from stock 90 mm to 95 mm. He has ported the head, custom built intake with 330 injectors and four large single intake ports in the manifold, 69 mm throttle body, cam is 280 duration with .525 lift, H23 crank, headers, and custom ECU. I've also sent my stock H22 block from my DOHC VTEC 95 Honda Prelude to a company in Indiana (Darton) to have it bored out from stock 87 mm to 89 mm and also sleeved (and using forged pistons allowing 11.5 to 1 compression ratio). I had always planned on using my strong, bored-out sleeved block with all of his features, Las Vegas says that his regular stock block will work better (as in performance racing) then my bored out sleeved block using his H23 crank and rods and type S pistons by Honda. Is Vegas right? Or just wanting us to use his engine which he hasn't tried this type of setup before. OR am I right? Mixing the best of both to create a better performing engine. I'm looking for street and drag abilities.
I'm building an all motor engine, no forced induction. I've also posted this at another forum site and someone said the cam is too small for such a big engine. Any take on that??
I'd need specs on both the intake and exhaust cams...theres two in a H22
Good luck streeting an all motor H22...if you make it I'd love to see pics. Check your PM.

OK.... 90mm to 95mm is relating to how much the engine is stroked. I'm making it move 5 more mm more in the cylinder. That has nothing to with the bore. Stock bore is 87mm. And i'm boring it out to 89mm. And yes... that will fit in the block. I'm also sleeving it for strength. Any questions?... go to http://www.Darton-International.com they are handling by bore and sleeves and a few other mods. The custom ECU is also a question on my mind, this las vegas guy says it will work. I honestly don't know. Why wouldn't this ECU work? And for the intake... las vegas is custom building his intake for my engine with four large single hole ports, instead of the 8 smaller ports that which only 4 are open in regular driving before VTEC, but when VTEC kicks in, the top 4 ports open up and allow more air to circulate for better performance. The engine might lag a bit with only four large ports instead of 8. Check out vegas's site at http://www.DH-Racing.com Both the cams are duration 280 with .525 lift.
any one notice the injectors are a little small or is it just me. I know obd 1 ar 345. and obd2 290. but would 330s be able to handle all the mods.
the 8 ports and the butterflies (actually call IABs) dont open exactly when vtec hits. also its not so much more air but the velocity of the air in the runners.
and if your running a custom motor and ecu. I dont believe there is any reason to run the stock intake.
Honda designed the IABs to run specifically with there stock motor and ecu. I believe it would be irratating to bring that into the tuning perameters along with vtec. plus who knows if that would do you any good.
find out what the "custom ecu" is? is it a piggy back system or just chipped.

how about 440 injectors? Vegas was originally putting in that but didn't because I wasn't sure how street drivable it would be and asked to tune it down a bit. I'm not looking for an all out racer, more a very impressive sleeper. I've been left in the dark about the custom ecu. My original ecu did have a chip put in, so I might stay with that.
you don't want 440cc injectors from rc bc they are saturated. There are 370 and 500 peak and holds to choose from if you think you'll need more than the stock jdm h22 (345). Personally I don't think you'll need them with the hp you'll put down but its really up to you in the end. Don't use a chipped ecu! Get hondata! my opinion again ofcourse, but this is a fact: TUNING IS EVERYTHING. Remember that and you'll be good. By the way, if you have the money to spend resleeving your block and getting pistons... I would say instead to buy some JUN pistons so you don't have to resleeve.(or think about going in on a possible group buy with myself and some others of some cosworth pistons which is the company that makes JUN's pistons for the h22a that are compatible with the frm sleeves). These pistons will give you a 12.3:1 comp. ratio. Much better than 11.5:1 for an NA application. If you don't quite want 12.3 on pump gas you could always stick a thicker head gasket on it and take it down to 12, but at least you know that extra comp. is always there with that change of a head gasket. Cam is def. too small. That is a personal choice. I would also like to know what header "VEGAS" is using cuz it sort of sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about if he is telling you some of this stuff. If the header sucks, I bet his build will suck cuz you don't build a nice motor and **** out on the header if you know what you're doing. So far I would be skeptical of what he wants to do. By the way, bolt ons, nice cams, and a nice head job, and the stock bottom end can give you up to about 230 with some NICE tuning. Build the bottom end and you've got like 10-20 more, that is after more changes and tuning. You need time and patience to build an all motor engine but it is WORTH IT! Good luck man! Hope that helps.

330 injectors? tHat guy is pulling your leg. 330's are stock on h22's. Get dsm 440's if anything

Alright... now i've found out that 450 injectors are going to be used. I'm still not sure about the cams. http://www.darton-international.com says that my cam (280 duration with .525 lift) is a common cam for my type of engine build. But i would like to know the best cam i could use if anyone knows. One part i did receive from Vegas is the head. He custom ported it. It looked great but i wasn't sure if everything was as good as it could be(the springs, how much it was ported, and etc.)... so i sent it up to the Darton company and i'll be hearing from them shortly about it. Darton is putting in Crower rods and JE forged pistons allowing the 11.5 compression ratio. The 12.3 sounds nice, but i feel it would be too much for a street/drag sleeper. -So right now i need to know Which hondata i should buy and wat cam is best????
Lets not make this thread about Dave Hickman. I've been to some other threads that had up to 75 replies about how bad or good he is. I've heard all the stories and i've talk to him about this. He knows what is said about him. I trust that he's doing everything he can to make this engine work right for me. Even with all the bad talk about him, he has still be building since 1990. and i doubt theres many people that can compete with some of his accomplishments and i know some of his failures as well. But, off that subject... can anyone tell me what cam i should use for my current setup???

alright... 450 injectors are being used... the custom intake has no butterflies... its only four large ports. I know the velocity of the air in the runners is what i need which is why i'm asking about the intake without butterflies. It seems there would be better velocity of air if there were butterflies and 8 ports. I'm curious how the engine will respond to no butterflies(feel like a lag until high rpm or what?)
The ecu i believe is a P28... and i'm trying to get my hands on Hondata to attach to that ecu.
Again... any take on best cams i should use???
