Default 99-00 civic headlamp question

i notice that my 99-00 civic headlamps have this reflector shield in front of the head lights, and was wondering is there a way to remove this shield? if so, do i have to heat the headlamp cover to remove this piece or no?? thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you have to heat it.

Crazy and right.

I imagine you'd blind the **** outta people if you take it off, not to mention light will be going all over the place and you wont be able to see as well.

VA96 is right, the reflector redirects the 'rogue' light going all over back to the main reflector - not just to not blind people but to put the light where it will help you see better. If you look closely, you'll see on nearly all automotive headlights that the main bulb has a reflector in front of it or silver paint (usually with a black coat over it) on the very tip.

jw why doesn't my friends real CTR headlamps come w/ them? or any ctr headlamps for that matter? OEM usdm compared to the jdm ones are identical except jdm ones have city lights and no reflector shield. just curious on the difference. thanks for the response so far guys.

CTR headlights don't come with the shields. My friend's EK with no shield + HIDs = blindness.

I would venture to say that it has to do with different DOT regulations in North America vs Europe/Japan.

That thimble sized bulb shield will help cut down on upward stray light that causes backdazzle in bad weather. Removing it will not make you see any better.

Why do you want to remove it? Seems dumb to me. Check my 1st post for the reasons why.

On another note HID's in a halogen housing is moronic. You should kick your friend in the nuts.

Bake your headlights for a few minutes to head up the adhesive which will allow you to pull the headlight apart, then you should be able to remove the shield no prob.

Do a search, i know there are several write ups on how to pull apart/paint 96-00 headlights.

thanks all for ur "help" but i tried heating the headlamp and took my spare 99-00 headlight apart and no luck. There's no way of getting that sucker out, oh well i guess i'll just keep it the way it is. and for those who keep askin why or flaming me i didn't ask for that i just asked for an answer and not ur opinions. thanks anyways.
