Default Cleaning wheels

I just bought my Mugens out of a ship container, and they have all kinds of deposits on them, whats the best way to clean?

start with water and soap, then move onto more abrasive products like rubbing alcohol or simple green or whatever. take small steps and test the product on the back of the wheel before doing the face. it'd suck to cause chemical damage to the wheels.

I've been told that lacquer thinner works well, as does a fine steel wool. I'll give your suggestion a shot.. I'd like for 'em to polish up nice.
