Default MX-5 question

I was wondering if the engine mounting on a Mazda RX-7 woudl fit on the engine mounting in a Mazda MX-5 Miata (91').

Don't ask me why I'm wondering though, just playing with the though

i highly doubt it. the rotary in the RX7 sits so much lower than the miata motor does i can't imagine that they'd work.

why don't you ask a mazda board?

Do you mean "Will an rx7 motor fit in an mx5?"

If that is your question, no. The rotary is much wider and the crank, ecentric shaft, centerline is much higher so a transmission from a rotary motor must also be used. It has been done but is a huge amount of work to get in the car.

Oh yeah, wouldn't this question be better asked on a Mazda site than a Honda one?

Yep. Do a google search for 'rotary miata'. Boosting the 1.6L lump is a much better use of your time and effort

http://www.miata.net

i visit there off-and-on to check out the state of the art miatas. *deep down inside, i'd love to own one.* i can't say that they're technically up to date compared with many of the honda enthusiats here. but again like i said, i only poke my head in there once in a while - you might find an article on your very topic.

The 5.0 Ford fits, and I have driven such a car. It looked like an average Miata but sounded like a Mustang. For big performance, turbocharging the stock 1.8L can make a lot of power without re-engineering the car. My friend is currently building a 2.3L turbo for his Miata, however.
