Default civic hx

is the 1997 civic hx a bad car to buy? would u rather get an EX or what...i got a deal on an HX for $3000 with 100k mileage on it but i have not heard of the HX too much...is there any pros or cons to buying this model rather than an EX? then engine only carries 117 hp stock...and i have looked and i didnt find many parts for it from greddy or apexi...and hks are expensive as hell

so what should i do? go for the good deal or wait for an EX?
and yes i want to make my civic performance tuned

thanks

you can do anything with any car you want. What are your plans for the car? If I were in your shoes I'd jump on that deal.

well i got a couple friends who know engines and some shops around my area...right now i have no major plans but i/h/e and a drop to make it sleek...some rims...clear the front lights...but i am scared of the engine because it only has 117 hp....and i read that it takes 9.9 seconds to go from 0-60..thats is verrryyy slow.....does it have any potential to reach the low 300s? I have a plan to maybe turbo this thing by the summer.....im sure i would need a swap before i could do that...probably either a B16A2 or B16B.....as for the deal i am checking the car out on saturday

thanks for the help i really appreciate it

any suggestions are welcome too

If you plan on swapping it out then why install I/H/E? The route that I would take on this would be to work on the suspension first.

You could turbo your stock HX motor but I'm not sure about the 300hp mark. Just use the search button and check around in the archives because a lot of this stuff has been covered to death!

Is keeping your car smog legal an issue? If it is, about the only thing you can do performance wise is exhaust and intake.

If smoging the car doesn't matter, then Turbonetics is the only company I've seen that makes a kit specifically for the HX. The HX has VTEC-E, Which is only for fuel economy. So other turbo kits for the EX will fit, but I don't know how the HX computer will treat it.

If I were you, I wouldn't put any effort into improving the performance of the HX's d16y5. Just save up for a swap.

I doubt there is a significant difference between an HX turbo kit from turbonetics and the EX turbo kit. I turboed my HX and it ran just fine. I used the 92-95 greddy ex kit. And your comment is the exact reason there isnt a gaggle of information about the HX. Instead of working with what you have, people always say swap.

if u plan on swapping it dont spend that much on a car, get one for like 1k, drop an ls motor in there then turbo it, u could have well over 300. and plz dont turbo a ctr motor, those are built for n/a

dude get a 5th gen then, theyre lighter and look better. u could get one for 1k with a blown motor or something and then take that other 2 grand and buy an ls motor. they arent more than 1k, i know that

I guess that is in the eye of the beholder. I couldnt drive ANY other coupe besides my 6th gen. I think all the other year coupes are nasty.

yes just about everything will fit if. but for the bodys some will if its 96-98 or 99-00. if its a comob of both of those then some mod work is needed but thats only for the front ie bumper and hood and lights everthing else will fit no prob.
